I know you can make figures say anything but I took a look at the average attendance of the 11 teams that have remained in the Championship since August 2008. Only took those teams so the figures not distorted by teams in one year not in next etc ie tried to compare like with like. Also turns out that most of the teams chosen are reasonably comparable to CCFC in many ways
in the 3 full seasons the %age movement from season 2008/09 is as follows (figs in brackets are inclusive of 2011/12 season to date compared to 2008/09)
(1)Cardiff +28% (plus 24%)
(2)Forest +4% (minus 1%)
(3)Palace 0% (0%)
(4)Ipswich -6% (minus 12%)
(5)CCFC -6% (minus 16%)
(6)Barnsley -10% (minus 21%)
(7)Reading -11% (minus 8%)
(8)Derby -12% (minus 12%)
(9)Watford -12% (minus 16%)
(10)Bristol -13% (minus 20%)
(11)Doncaster -14% (minus 19%)
Somehow I expected that CCFC fall off in crowds would be bottom of the list but it seems it isnt. It has accelerated this season, but this has also been the case in other teams although perhaps not as much. However it is difficult to extrapolate figures on uncompleted seasons. I think it is safe to say that the anti SISU effect on attendances was not that significant up until August 2011, because the fall in attendance was by no means unusual compared to the other teams used. However since then there appears to be a marked acceleration (not full season though) which is above nearly all the other teams chosen
Yes I do believe there is an effect on attendances caused by SISU, but there is a significant effect on nearly all clubs caused by such things as the recession, product tiredness, lack of success etc. Would guess at the anti SISU effect accounting for half the %age fall in crowds at the Ricoh
