I have been casting my mind back and it seems that we seem to have had a lot of stonewall penalties turned down against us, MVE Vs Charlton, Haji Vs Ipswich etc.
But what had got me thinking was when was the last time we were given a penalty and then when was the last time we were given a dodgy penalty.
I can think of Godden against Fulham a few years ago as being a fortunate one, but I am sure there have been one more recently.

And he was the last player in England to be banned in the only time we got away with one. The authorities have always been a bit anti Cov.

Simms at home, Frank's first home game. Can't remember the opposition. Cardiff? Given for handball; we were lucky.

For a team which creates so many goalmouth chances and has scored so many goals, it's really quite unbelievable that we've had so few penalties given...you would think we'd have accumulated the most penalty shouts of all the teams in the EFL.

It's a fair point. I always use to say the big teams get more penalty favours, and got met with the argument that they create more chances and that's why. Doesn't seem to have the same logic here.

I would be curious to know how many penalties have been given to other teams in the league, for good measure.

You look at touches in the oppo box:

FotMob

FotMob is the essential app for matchday. Get live scores, fixtures, tables, match stats, and personalised news from over 500 football leagues around the world.

And pens received:

Championship - Penalties received

Diese Statistik der Championship gibt Aufschluss, welcher Verein die meisten Elfmeter in der 25/26 erhalten hat und es wird zusätzlich die Erfolgsquote angezeigt.

And us and Wrexham stick out like sore thumbs for different reasons. Sure it’s a total coincidence the over represented teams are money sides tho.

There have been other examples across the league similar who appear to match the Godden one but no retrospective action, I'm thinking Fulham just carried so much weight in that instance?

I do genuinely wonder if the "Lampard's right, the refs are shite" chant has an impact.

For a while it was basically a guarantee that it would get sung before half time, almost regardless of the referee's performance.

I think you’ve probably got a point here. Also us being absolute twats every time there’s a corner probably doesn’t endear us on the refs WhatsApp

Yes, good point - you can see these days that refs clearly know about the corner nonsense, previously it threw some of them off.

If we do have a reputation amongst refs it probably introduces a bias, conscious or not, and affects decision making.

I do not know whether posters remember the first time Eddie Howe's Bournemouth were promoted to the Premier league. Referees appeared to worship them. They seemed to get penalties galore
For whatever reason we are not a football club which gets decisions in our favour. Our opponents on Monday evening are a football club who do appear to get decisions in their favour. Whilst this does not alter the fact that we were poor on Monday evening. A penalty decision in our favour at 0-0 would have altered the dynamics of the contest.
I have no doubt whatsoever that if a snow storm had rendered our match with Ipswich unplayable after 80 minutes. We would have been fined as a club for not taking the necessary precautions and there is nothing more certain than the result would have stood.

Over the half the league have been awarded 1 or 0 pens, it would be interesting to see what the comparison is the same time last season. There's definitely been a directive to be far more lenient this season.

I think the touches in the box is a bit of a red herring. We have a lot of set pieces including long throws, even a flick on header is classed as a touch in the opposition box.

Throw in the Palmer booking against Wolves for celebrating on the pitch.
So many times teams do it, sometimes loads of players like Millwall recently. Nothing done.
Persecution complex moi.

That was entirely up to the referee’s discretion.
How much of a fucking mean spirited lick spittle do you have to be to book someone for celebrating a goal that will definitely see them going to Wembley?

Calling the Godden pen v Fulham a "fortunate" one is a bit understated tbf. There's an easy pen that you get the luck of the draw with, then there's the PGMOL looking at the incident after the game and giving suspensions for diving

Loved Godden, Loved that win, but fortunate? Maybe not. Cheating? Most certainly

Yes?

The more the ball is in the oppo box the more likely a foul will occur. I’m not sure what the relevant of it being a header is. Defenders can foul on headers too.

It was a stone waller. The only thing is the pull is on the back of EMCs shirt, and EMC is front on to the Ref, so the ref can't see the pull.

I'm pretty sure referee's are using us for a case study of why VAR needs to be introduced in the Championship at the moment.

How the ref thinks EMC has fallen as he did without the two handed shirt pull dragging him over backwards, I’ve no idea.

I’ve said for a while refs need to study body kinematics as part of training because there’s some cases where a player has either blatantly not dived or blatantly dived based on how they fall that so few refs seem to understand.
