Lampard to Southampton? (15 Viewers)

If Graeme Bailey told me that the sky was blue then I would pop my head out the window to go and double check myself, an absolute waffler.

Also, with all the animosity and bad blood towards Uncle 'Arry at St. Mary's - Would Saints fans even want or accept him?

I don’t think he’ll go just yet but we are going to have to look at a new deal sooner rather than later especially if he starts next year well.

Done a great job and while people will be annoyed brought a spot light under the club which will only help us attract better players and commercial deals.

He seems a decent and honourable guy - i really cant see him jumping ship. Look at the rapport he has with the fans - i just cant see it.
We said that about Mark Robins. Sky blue blood running through his veins blah blah blah. Next thing you know he's f....d off to Huddersfield!!

This is baseless of course, but I think Lampard needs to stick to a project for a while - any job he's offered is unlikely to give him the time, space & backing that we are.

It would have to be a huge job for him to chance it - and remember he's done that before and I don't think his career can take many more of those moves. If his long term goal is to manage at the top level he has to prove he can have a positive impact over multiple seasons and move a club forward significantly. I don't think he's done that yet.

I know money talks but the optics would be a shambles if FL leaves us after 6/8 months to a team in the same league. “Thanks for the opportunity to get back in, I’m off”

I’m sure FL will move on at some point but not this early. I’d be shocked.

I dont think its a guarantee we finish next season with Lampard...

if we start well, he could be snapped up by someone who makes an early sacking, if we start poorly and find ourselves in 17th again, Doug may even pull the trigger, depending on what backing is given in summer!

Yeah I could see a lower position PL team picking him up if we have a good start, but I think he’ll still find it hard to leave as he’ll want a promotion on his CV. At the moment he still doesn’t have anything tangible to push his management achievements.

Doug will not "pull the trigger"
Would cost to much money !!

Don't think he'll be off to Southampton but I think people need to be careful with the he loves it here and won't want to leave stuff. Just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Just can't see him turning down an opportunity to progress his own career. Start next season well and it's not hard to imagine one of the teams struggling at the bottom of their Prem take a look at him when they inevitably fire their own manager.

Do we honestly believe that Doug didn’t put something in his contract that we have to be given so many million? One day he will go but I would be surprised if it’s to another Championship team at this stage. If someone like West Ham came in it may be different.

I think it would take a lot more for a PL team to be interested.

If we're top of the league at Christmas or something then yeah maybe. But if we're floating around 6-8th I don't see him getting a PL job.

Strange one, but something i also worry about. Although I agree it had gone a bit stale with Robins after Adi left, I never worried about Robins leaving us. Even when clubs (like Sunderland did at one point) came in trying to poach him from us. Never did i worry about him being tempted. And part of our success under Robins was his longevity. Having a manger at the helm, building his ideas and given time and opportunity to do so. With Frank though, he's got form of walking put on Derby for a better offer (albeit it was Chealsea and he is Mr.Chelsea) but I feel as though we could lose him at any point to a better offer. And the last thing we need is to jump back on that managerial merry-go-round again.

Not that I think there’s anything in this particular story, but I imagine he’d give serious thought to an offer from any of the relegated PL teams.
