Signed his first pro deal last summer & is one of Villa's top prospects. Captains their U23s at 18yrs old & was in England U19 squad.
No chance of a permanent if that's what you were hoping!

Just wondered what his pedigree was. Maybe he is too good to miss on loan even though RWB is not a priority.

I suspect Robins would like to farm them out but it might be easier said than done

I sometimes wonder if we buy them as a gamble because they were brilliant youth players ..Kastaneer and Hilssner or Norwich or Wolves recommended Jobello?

Yeah part of it they would be on the radar for years. Kastaneer represented Holland U19-U21 and Hilssner Germany U16-U19

Agree. It's not like they don't have some pedigree. It's always difficult to know how it's going to transfer to a new country, new culture, different tactics, styles of play etc. Hell, a lot of domestic transfers that look great on paper don't work out before any of that is taken into account. With a foreign transfer you can do all your due diligence but there's always these intangibles.

Kastaneer is infuriating, I think most of us can see he has most of the attributes to be a real asset if he had the mentality & desire.

Have to agree his 20 minutes at Portsmouth and first half at Bristol Rovers I thought we’ve got a player here....but then what happened.

All 4 of the European freebies have been tripe. We should abandon the strategy and ask big questions of the guy that formulated it.

Given how poor his positioning is I wouldn't be surprised to see him carrying out the wrong religious ritual.

I would agree, the internationals brought in other than Hamer have hardly set the world alight. Jobello looked alright prior to his injury in League One but yeah never managed to make it back in the team so Robins clearly feels not good enough. Signs all these wingers but we don’t play with wingers

Reminds me of Kevin Malaga, on paper was supposed to be great but had no desire, lazy and just didn’t have that spark

In fairness to Hilsner don’t really know about him either way seemed to do okay at Oldham without setting the world alight and seemed to keep his fitness so let’s see what a pre-season brings.

I believe we got recommended Malaga and Edjenguele by Newcastle scout Graham Carr

Brentford scout in the French 2nd tier too , we're quite new to it so hopefully we get better at it as time goes by .

They are relatively low risk

There are clearly some gems there

Why France's Ligue 2 remains a must-watch for talent scouts

Sochaux, Caen and Le Havre might not obviously appeal, but there's a chance some of your favourite players began there or at clubs just like them.

Definitely but I wouldn’t say signing from abroad is low risk. To make it worthwhile for them to move usually get offered 3 year deals, Kastaneer will probably see his out here playing little football despite the club trying to move on. Hillsner is apparently a more sporting character

My only argument would be that we should be looking to pay some money to get better talent from ligue 2.

We are trying to cheap out on it really , but even a small fee for players could see a considerable return on ability and profit in the future

There has been no suggestion we’ve been in the market for a right back?

And Swindon are League 2, if a Championship club were looking at him as back up or whatever, you’d think League 1 would be the move as a starter?

Agreed, but Dabo has been in the wars. As he wasn't guaranteed a start he went to Swindon where he will. Shame he is decent

But…if he was considered good enough to be a squad player at Championship level as you claim, the best club who could offer him a start was a League 2 one?

Big season for Da Costa. Must have been extremely difficult last season with moving to a new country amid COVID and picking up a variety of injuries. Certainly looks like he can create an opportunity or two. Just needs to be more consistent defensively.
