I went to the Everton game at Goodison expecting a beating, 4-1 and well worth it, away day to Burnley, took thousands and took over Blackpool too. David Cross made his name for Rochdale in 71 knocking us out of the cup and had a great career especially at West Ham.

Yep - I was 16 and had spent most/all of my money. Some Coventry 'lads' chatted to us by our coach and said that they were skint too and asked if we wanted to go with them and basically mug someone. Being a young Leamington grammar school softy, I tried not to look too shocked, and declined!

Any more clues? Gerry Francis used to be known for his antiques but can't think of a stoke connection. Only other England captain's I know that were for us were managers or don't fit (pearce mills butcher neal)

Average early 90's winger. Only top flight football was with Cov playing just 21 games he scored his only goal for us against Derby.

Biggest clue - shares his name with a Nuneaton street.

Leigh Jenkinson? (don't know Nuneaton at all so no clue to me that one - other than Bobby Sands phone number)

played 1990 - 1992, left 1994. injury plaqued spent last 2 seasons in reserves. Used to see him in my local (Arley) chippy.
his first and last name are the street name. not just surname such as 'Smith Street'.

However the street name doesn't include the name Street, Avenue, Road, Lane or Close.
Just the players name. Their is no connection between the player & the naming of the road.

I can't believe I've just wasted 15 minutes going through a list of every street in Nuneaton and still missed him! I'm not looking again so unless Greg Rutherford has a footballing brother named Glen, I'm out

Ok another one for you:

Scottish midfielder once labelled the "best young player in Britain". Only played a handful of games but was quite notorious. Signed by Phil Neal.

I'm not letting you have that one.
His name isn't 'The Raywoods'. It's 'Ray Woods'.
This has nothing to do with me spending 15/20 mins looking at Nuneaton street names on google maps either...

A Scottish winger signed by John Sillett and played only 4 times. I think his debut was as a substitute and when he made his first start at HR he was substituted either at half time or in the first half

Correct. Did he as my memory thinks get subbed off in the first half or half time of his full debut? I also think we never saw him again after that

Honestly can't remember. All I know it was the year of the Speedie/Gary Bennett thing as he got us tickets for Sunderland away when he was expecting to play. Long way for a 0-0 in midweek and he wasn't playing

I just looked at our squad from that year too - there was a goalkeeper called Tynan Scope - never heard of him until recently, but too much of a coincidence not to be the one now at the club in the offices. Didn't know he was a player before. Also with Oggy away, as I have no idea what he looks like, could he have been the guy warming up Burge and LOB on Saturday?
