I just don’t get it. Surely deadball is the one area of your game that shouldn’t decline that much in the move up to adult football, and he’s always taken corners. He must have been doing better than the ones yesterday even in the U18s

Have you thought the fact that the defenders are improved? Bit different taking corners against 17 years old than top end championship blokes.

Surely your ball shouldn’t be bouncing before the first man at any level?

It's a very fine line trying to beat that first defender, isn't it? Just miss him and the ball is landing on the edge of the 6 yard box.

He’s turning into a top player - dead ball prowess or not.

Plus the first 3 corners hit the first man coming about 2 foot of the floor.

2-4% of corners lead to goals. So he’s at the bottom end of that.

I’d argue he already is a solid player-Mid table Championship one.

I will admit to being one of those who did not rate him, and I am still err-ing on the side of caution before I get the bunting out for him. However, credit were due in that his overall open play the past couple of games has been a marked improvement (although corners are still questionable). Maybe it is due to the change of formation suiting his style a touch more, and I still do think that criticism of his performances in earlier games was fair, just as credit in these past two games is deserved.

I do still hope we go after one or two midfielders in January to hopefully create more competition

He’s not a Hamer who will pick the ball up and spray it 50 yards, or pick out a lone front man from deep. He needs options around and ahead of him and he’s very effective. Reckon he’ll score 5-10 in that role over a season as well.

Eccles clearly player of the season so far. Sheaf probably next. They are an excellent combination.

Just not as a 2. Positionally I think Eccles struggles slightly in a 2 as he pushes up quite aggressively and left us exposed to counter attacks quite a few times. With 3 in the middle now I can see him going from strength to strength.

So is that a goal for each of the last 3 attempts?? If so 100% score. Just saying not a very good stat to lean on.

What I don't get is why we have 6 players at the back post every corner and no one at the front post? Same in general play to be honest. The amount of times we put crosses into the front half of the goal and out strikers are at the back stick really annoys me. The amount of chances we would have if we attacked the front post is ridiculous.

Definitely the pick of the new signings at this stage.
Below Eccles though imo.

It’s weird how he now can’t get in the lineup though, I’d rather Lati than Thomas personally

Josh Eccles? Class. Takes no sh*t, great in the tackle and can pick a pass (through ball to Wright 1st half against Plymouth was sublime). Some of his performances at RWB have been excellent too.
Don’t understand the criticism to be honest.

Where does he rank in academy graduates who made their debut since 2000? How many have played consistently at this level?

That 2010-15 period is seen as the peak with Wilson, Maddison, plus our heavy reliance on the kids.

He must be above Willis, Shipley, Tom Bayliss now. Behind Cyrus Christie who's played in the top flight.

Because once again it's a lack of pragmatism from the club.

Eccles, as talented as he is, quite clearly has persistent injury issues which he can't seem to shake. Every single season he's been out for long periods which at this stage of his career should set off some alarm bells.

I doubt his issues are suddenly going to disappear.

Understandable why the club want to retain him but unsure why they couldn't have just offered him a 2 year extension with an option of a further year in their favour. It's still a fair contract to offer and ties him down for potentially 3 years - just with a bit more flexibility.

Saved you all the time looking. The funny thing is if we’d offered him a shorter contract the same people probably would’ve been moaning that we don’t tie our players down for long enough.

My concern was around his injuries at time.

Presumably claiming Biamou was a better option than Gyokeres was part of new material you were testing out?

Nothing I've said in there is actually unfair. From face value giving him the contract length we did was a bold decision when he was breaking down season after season.

It was a calculated risk by the club and it paid off, but it could've easily gone in a different direction.

My attitude at the time wasn't helped by us giving extensions to players that were completely undeserving - Jones, Kelly etc.

I agree, when is this club going to learn? When is it?

4 year contract for a player that has been with the first team since 2019 and contributing a handful of games due to not being good enough, injured or sitting on the bench. Another year or two max on a relevant salary I’d possibly except the thinking but four years.

I may be in the minority but I don’t see a player in Eccles like I do see in Burroughs. All about opinions but the club needs to stop dishing out long term contracts to players who haven’t deserved them. I may be harsh here but this industry must be the only one that rewards failure. He may be on £500 a week for example (he won’t) but it’s still a salary going out the club.

Let’s hope he sorts his injury problems out and becomes a regular automatic first team player.

Now he has. This was ages ago.

Better teams is arguable. I think man for man the Coleman side was as good as we’ve got now.

He played in teams that were a penalty kick away from the EPL and a couple away from an FA cup final.
The Coleman team doesn't come close.
