The Coleman team doesn't come close.

Better teams is arguable. I think man for man the Coleman side was as good as we’ve got now.

Defensively yeah think the frontline is better maybe now though?

And turner got to Wembley in a final v Liverpool though?
He was a beast in the end for us,earned him a move but possibly financially expedient to the club?

Even if that's true (and I don't think it is), Coleman's *teams* were a massive disappointment.

Not check mate.
The teams Eccles played in have been better. It's not even a debate.

When your arguments consist of early round league cup wins and league positions after 6 games you probably should quietly bow out of the thread

Didn't the Coleman teams finished 21st, 17th and 19th or something like that?

Lead us to our lowest finish for nearly 50 years, not sure how that can be considered a good team?
Few decent individuals but on the whole, rank rotten.

Only stayed up as Leicester fucked it last day, and that was with a team with Kasper Schmeichel in nets.

Nothing I've said in there is actually unfair. From face value giving him the contract length we did was a bold decision when he was breaking down season after season.

It was a calculated risk by the club and it paid off, but it could've easily gone in a different direction.

My attitude at the time wasn't helped by us giving extensions to players that were completely undeserving - Jones, Kelly etc.

Not forgetting the signings at the time who hardly played for the club on 4 year deals.

The display at Charlton was a disgrace, in hindsight we’d have been better off getting relegated.

Trying to remember which ones played together. The likes of Dann, Fox, Gunnarsson, Westwood walk into this team but there wasn't much else. Some good pros who Coleman thoroughly failed to get the best from but the team we have now is far superior, especially in the attacking positions.

that day in general was a disgrace, i'd been in the colly the night before and tried to impress a girl by buying loads of shots so had one of the worst hangovers ever made worse by the stress of that game

and yes it is likely we would have been better off going down

They did indeed though his management certainly didn’t help. Our first season down in this division was our best chance at promotion, and it was a pretty strong side for the league.

Fell away spectacularly

That team with a good manager would have been much better but this current team pisses all over it, only improvement would be Fox, Danny and Westwood.

Gunnarsson wouldn't have much of an issue walking into the current side.

it was mid table, also apart from the keeper and a couple of defenders who is better than the current team?

Coleman was one of the worst City managers in recent years. Spunked alot of money Freddie Eastwood, Chris Birchall and Sammy Clinighan etc. Rambled on in interviews, incoherenatly for the most part. Heard he wasn't overly committed. If Sisu and Ranson had picked a proper manager from the lower leagues things may of been different.

Lee Carsley, Lee Hughes, David Thompson, Youssef Safri etc were strong players for the league at the time and went on to play top flight. Obviously now the league as a whole is much stronger than it was 23 years ago.

From what I recall it was between Coleman and the Newcastle assistant, Nigel Pearson. Like Ranson, our fans wanted a name.

Neil Warnock would have taken any team up in that era with the right backing. Not that we’d have got him

I agree with you, to an extent, Carsley did leave early in the season though didn't he? A big loss.

I’d say we’re about Mickey Adam’s level TBF. But Coleman had some good players.

Adams side with Wise in it was levels above anything Coleman produced.
Albeit its a low bar and it was only for a short period of time.

Worse players but a better team. Turner was in both IIRC. I stand by my point that I don’t think Eccles has played in much better teams. Closest was the PO side but that was two PL class players and a bunch making up the numbers with good spirit really.

According to Ranson he could have had Warnock but chose Coleman over him.
