Im not sure if the ccfc site is accurate but looking at joe murphys player profile he has only made 4 saves and conceded 15 goals in 8 games. Pretty dire if you ask me

Agree, never seen a worse goalkeeper in my 35 years of watching football. Never despised one as much either.

I don't think Murphy is that bad a keeper. He is an average goal keeper and is unfortuate that he came in and replaced Westwood. Had he have came in to replace Dimi or Shearer people would see it differently.

At least Dimi Kantstopalotofshots had a great nickname! Sorry, but for me Joe Murphy is the reason why those in front of him so bad, they have no confidence in their 'keeper.

Murphy is a good goalkeeper, its not his fault our defence has been God awful this season. Makes great saves and takes great pens, he is not a problem the likes of Clarke, Wood, Brown and Hussey are all awful defensively and Clarke doesn't know how to get forward. Anyone who mentions Dunn, clearly didn't read what Northampton fans had to say about him. Also Murphy is the only player who knows who to get out of this league as he did it twice with Scunny. People compare him to Westwood, but despite his legendary status at this club he cant get a game at Sunderland with the distinctively average Mignolet keeping him out. It really is laughable that people think Murphy is too blame for our problems this season, it says a lot about our fans.....

agreed. for me he isnt confident. he isnt commanding when crosses come in. he flaps a lot. he doesnt seem to be a great shot stopper. some keepers are 1 or the other, either great at stopping shots, quick and agile or very good at catching the ball and dealing with crosses etc. very few are good at both. murphy for me is good at neither.

How many goals would we concede less of Westwood was in goal.

I'm a keeper myself, and if there's one thing Murphy isn't guilty of it's flapping. He doesn't come off his line often (because his height means he can't be as commanding as we'd like) but when he does he usually makes a good catch/punch. I can't remember him coming off his line and not getting to the ball.

As for his shot-stopping being poor, you must have been watching a different keeper to me for the last year or so, because I'd say that's the strongest part of his game. Two good ones on Saturday and several one-on-ones last year. Hell, he's even saved about 4 penalties while he's been here.

I can say with 100% confidence if we replaced him with Dunn we'd be shipping more goals.

i cant answer that as i have not seen every goal we have conceded but it is kind of an irrelivant question. would be like saying how many goals more would we of scored with messi up front? westwood might of saved a few murphy didnt but he might not of. we will never know. i just dont like murphy

i can remember a few against burton and stevenage he didnt catch the ball comfortably. by shot stopping being poor i dont just mean blocking the ball i mean his parrying to an attacker or not punching/pushing it out of danger

I just don't like Murphy therefore must be based of something other than logic. The answer in the championship is 8 goals as this is the ratio of goals conceded difference factored over 46 games. You also need to factor in the fact that Westwood played in a stronger team.

So I provide some evidence and you provide "I don't like Murphy"

Case closed.

I'm not going to get into a debate about goalkeeping with someone that genuinely thinks Fabian Debec and Scott Shearer were better keepers for us than Murphy has been.

Fair point. Debec was the worst keeper we have ever had. He will tell us next that "big" Andy Goram was better as well.

i didnt say they were better i made a joke about holding rope. and how can you provide evidence of the random point i made regarding messi? "westwood played in a better team" as does messi. Just because someone has done something at 1 place doesnt mean he would do it here (torres liverpool-chelsea). i dont like murphy for the reasons i said. i dont think he is a good goalkeeper. simple as.

***think i misread your post. you was on about westwood conceding and not messi scoring? or am i missing something?**

If Murphy played in man United's team his goals conceded column would improve. Put any Premier League goalkeeper in our team and he will concede more.

This suggests the goalkeeper is not the problem

The biggest joke is that old cliche the defence have no confidence in him.

If you were in goal how much confidence would you have in them!

Easily enough to get promoted - although it would be nice to see how long it would take for CCFC to destroy his confidence and career.

its difficult to know for sure. murphy in a prem league team he might concede more or less. a prem keeper for us may concede more or less. it all depends. you cant prove that joe hart for eg would have let in the same as murphy if he played for us and i cant prove that he would of saved more.

the keeper is not the only reason. but part of it.

no they probably havent got much confidence in him. (but they probably havent got confidence in the MF or ATT either)

not much.

Cant stand him, and no its not cos he replaced Westwood, his default action is to run out and criticise somebody, he very rarely helps out his defenders when they are under pressure and are looking for a backpass, in fact I was shocked on saturday as we passed the ball back to him rather than knocking it out for a throw and allowing the opposition to start another attack on us. His shot stopping is ok, however has made the odd howler, ie Palace away last year he was at fault for both goals, basically I see everything about his game which Robins was talking about after the game, players taking the easy option etc.....
