Joe Edwards, Chris Jones and the coaching staff (5 Viewers)

The individual player songs at the end of the game on Friday were brilliant (although I did feel a bit for Esse as the only player on the pitch not to have a song sung in his honour).

It would be great to see the coaching staff recognised on Sunday. Hopefully Frank brings Joe Edwards, Chris Jones and Aled Williams to the fore so they can get the appreciation they deserve from the fans.

Watching City Unseen, you really sense how much it all means to everyone and how strong the togetherness is. Sunday should be something special for all of us.

Enjoy tonight. I’ll be cheering on from home before heading over this weekend.

Agree. I think the fundamental difference for CCFC this year, has been seeing each player improve, some a little, but others like JDS, Eccles, EMC, Torp, a good 5-10%. They should take huge credit for this.

With good transfers like Rushworth, Grimes and Onyeka, into a great set-up/culture started by Robins and taken further by Lampard .........

There’s only one Aled Williams
One Aled Williams
He used to be shite
Now he’s got a considerably better class of goalkeeper to work with
Walking in a Williams wonderland

not counting Rushworth and Onyeka I make it 63 appearances between the others: 16, 20, 14, 10 & 3. Also Markelo 5. Obviously for most it is more minutes rather than games. But some of those have been crucial minutes. What I think is important is there has been no really expensive flops.

Come off it.

Woolf has been a touch disappointing but he equally hasn't had that much opportunity - I don't think anyone expected Lati to level up in the way he has.

MVE and JDS have been among our most consistent performers and Esse is competing with Tats for his place so was always going to struggle for minutes.

All of them with with exception of Brau have played a part.

I think €5m for 44 minutes isn’t great tbh.

I agree. If only he'd signed a contract past the end of the season that meant he could increase the number of minutes that he plays for us.

Good job we’re in a less competitive division next season with weaker players to increase his chances. Maybe Bassette and Brau will get some time too what do you think?

Not only Esse, we didn't sing to Markelo, Wolfenden, KKH, Dovin and Yang that were there. Also, Raphael, Andrews, Bassette, Perry, Dausch out on loan.

Yep, which is why I said the only player on the pitch on Friday. KKH and Wolf were subs and didn't play.

sometimes players need to be given time. Also don’t undervalue minutes off the bench. It is why top clubs are starting to have substitute coaches. Because substitutes have become a really valuable part of the game.

Their role is to debunk the idea that being a substitute is a secondary role. Acknowledge there are difficulties around joining a game and making an impact. Be involved around club statergies (one player get 60 mins another 30 mins). Help players understand what is expected of them when they come on. Pre planed substitutes. Tactical substitutes. Game management substitutes. The value of keeping squad members involved.

It is why a lot of clubs want to have more players on the bench. Not increase how many they can bring on, but increase the pool they can choose from during a match.

These are all really interesting theories but I think if someone has been there months and is clearly match fit and isn’t getting on the pitch especially when the others in their position are injured or regularly subbed off then Occam’s razor applies and they’re just not good enough rather than they’re some unique snowflake who needs time to bed in or whatever. The guy is 23 and cost more than EMC, Saka, Simms, etc. if he’s not playing now it’s highly unlikely he’s about to turn into a world beater. It’s not like it’s a position like defence where you’re scared to change it without good reason too. By far the most likely answer here as much as it makes people sad is that he’s just not as good as we thought he was.

The fringe players mentioned were all brought in as squad depth. We were relatively lucky with injuries this season and our first team rarely let us down .
Would have been interesting if Milan had been injured for 6 weeks to see how KKH did for example . I’m sure he would have done ok but he isn’t another Milan- a luxury we could never afford in the Championship.

You wonder if Bamford might have been an option after all especially as our strikers both seem to be out of form but then could we have stretched to Onyeka? Probably not and that was a bigger hole to plug

My 'theory' is based on an interview with the manager.

In another thread you were saying Simms cost £8 million.

Only time will tell. He might not make the grade but I would not take the amount of minutes he has or hasn't played at this stage of the season as an indication of that. The top clubs in the Premier League know it takes at least 12 months for a young foreign player to settle in this country.

Esse did his part. Giving us options wide when EMC & Saka were struggling or had knocks in Jan / Feb. As did Min Hyeok. I think we underestimate our players. It was clear both were nowhere near EMC & Saka's levels. Markelo has looked sharp however. As for Woolf. He never got a run, and to be honest I think Kitching is better. I think we may see more of KKH next season.
