Exactly my point. We have a defender who is fine as long as he doesn’t need to defend.Jay Da Silva, has been good enough to push Bidwell out. And has played well since Lampards arrival.
They key to him playing well has been that we have been on front foot most of the time. Which plays to his strengths. He will struggle and yes most of our team will too when up against better teams who have us pinned back. Just like he did a little against Leicester.
Overall it's ridiculous to suggest he's not Top 6 at this level..when we clearly are.
Apart from the fact he won every tackle and interception on Saturday, which is defendingExactly my point. We have a defender who is fine as long as he doesn’t need to defend.
He’s had one decent game against the most toothless opposition your ever likely to play. I hope he carries on and becomes the second incarnation of Maldini. I’d be delighted. We’ll seeApart from the fact he won every tackle and interception on Saturday, which is defending
I’m still waiting for the examples of when they got in behind him 6 or 7 times? He’s had one decent game against the most toothless opposition your ever likely to play. I hope he carries on and becomes the second incarnation of Maldini. I’d be delighted. We’ll see
Also Fatawu is one of the quickest players I have seen. His pace will cause most full backs a problemHe didn't play that bad at Leicester, he was up against a very good player who was playing regularly in the Prem last season.
I’m afraid you’ll be waiting a long time. I was at the game, I saw what I saw. I’m not going to recount individual plays just because you’ve said i should.I’m still waiting for the examples of when they got in behind him 6 or 7 times?
I was there and I saw what I saw too. I didn't see them get behind him 6 or 7 times so I want to know when they were. Trust me, I've very much been a critic of Dasilva and him being caught out by the long ball into space behind him. If it happened I would have taken note.I’m afraid you’ll be waiting a long time. I was at the game, I saw what I saw. I’m not going to recount individual plays just because you’ve said i should.
I agree. You saw what you saw. You also saw what nobody else saw.I’m afraid you’ll be waiting a long time. I was at the game, I saw what I saw. I’m not going to recount individual plays just because you’ve said i should.
So in other words you can’t provide the examples. I was also at the game and I didn’t see anyone get in behind him half a dozen times. You are so weird. You come out with statements and then can’t back it up.I’m afraid you’ll be waiting a long time. I was at the game, I saw what I saw. I can't remember Birmingham being in our half 6 or 7 times let alone getting on behind JDSSo in other words you can’t provide the examples. I was also at the game and I didn’t see anyone get in behind him half a dozen times. You are so weird. You come out with statements and then can’t back it up.
Here are his stats, which you will no doubt try to debunk
DefenceTackles - 5

Clearances - 2
Headed clearance - 1
Interceptions - 1
Recoveries - 7
Dribbled past - 0
Ground Duels Won - 7/10
utter bollocks, you're talking shiteI’m afraid you’ll be waiting a long time. I was at the game, I saw what I saw. I’m not going to recount individual plays just because you’ve said i should.
This is the guy who wanted MvE, possibly the best full back in the division, dropped, I think. With that in mind, Dasilva has no hope with him.utter bollocks, you're talking shite
I think some people would rather dig in than alter their opinions on things. It's not even a case of admitting you were wrong, if you said to me Dasilva had pretty much flip flopped between mediocre and poor the last 2 seasons I'd agree, but this season he's been good, which is a good thing.‘The battle of Dasilva Hill was fought in 2025 between the forces of Cally Fedora, who died on the eponymous hill during the battle, and the forces of Common Sense.’
Dasilva improved in the second half of last season, most with eyes would agree. Just odd to die on this particular hill, it’s only 30 cm highI think some people would rather dig in than alter their opinions on things. BTA also for large parts of last season looked like a headless chicken. This season he's been brilliant. Happy days if you ask me.
He improved sure, from a low starting point. He's much better this season.Dasilva improved in the second half of last season, most with eyes would agree. Just odd to die on this particular hill, it’s only 30 cm high
Did they get out of their own half 6 or 7 times?as has been said Brum didn't get in behind at all "6 or 7 times" let alone in behind jds that much
not in the 2nd half anywayDid they get out of their own half 6 or 7 times?
You surely understand that if he’s high up the pitch when we are on the attack that the ball will be played into the space the full back has vacated? Each time that happened he got back and recovered. You are totally out of your depth hereYeah, some very selective memories off the back of a good 3-0 win. JDS had his best game for us - accepted. But have a look at how many times he’s tracking back after a very simple ball is played in behind him. Positionally he has no idea.
Kitching has been outstanding.I think Da Silva is a decent 1:1 defender, strong in the tackle with his low centre of gravity. His main vulnerability is getting caught square with a ball between the left centre back and him, we seem to have stopped that happening as much (helped by playing a decent player in Kitching over Binks) and probably Grimes to an extent.

Think you've made a great link between Grimes coming in and Dasilva's improvement. Probably became noticeable for the last couple of months of last season, when everyone would have got used to Grimes' arrival and what it meant we would be doing different tactically with him as the fulcrum of the team?I think Da Silva is a decent 1:1 defender, strong in the tackle with his low centre of gravity. I mean I can't quite put my finger on what exactly is happening but like I said before, Kitching seems to be a key part in the counter to teams attempting the old smack it high towards JDS tactic; he looked really switched on and quickly headed towards JDS whenever it happened.Love it. Cant even say he’s playing well now it must be an other player doing it. This place man.
Management finding ways to cover for weaknesses in certain players games to allow them to concentrate of their strengths is normal and just another example of what a fine job Lampard and co are doing with this group of players.I mean I can't quite put my finger on what exactly is happening but like I said before, Kitching seems to be a key part in the counter to teams attempting the old smack it high towards JDS tactic; he looked really switched on and quickly headed towards JDS whenever it happened.
I don't think it in any way detracts from rightly recognising the enormous improvement to JDS' game over the last several months to say that we've had to work on his most obvious weakness as part of that.
It is the same as people saying that we need to replace Thomas, Kitching or even both because of the type of goals we were conceding. Now we look more solid because of slight changes in how we set up both offensively & defensively they are not getting any criticism. I thought the weak link defensively was JDS & whilst I still have some reservations that he sometimes is badly positioned & is watching the game go on around him he has massively improved this season & especially in the last few games.I mean I can't quite put my finger on what exactly is happening but like I said before, Kitching seems to be a key part in the counter to teams attempting the old smack it high towards JDS tactic; he looked really switched on and quickly headed towards JDS whenever it happened.
