Grimes is exactly the kind of signing we need. We would be looking really strong in midfield, and have a proper captain as well.

It could be a limited transfer window quantity wise, but Grimes and one or two signings of similar significant quality and no one can be annoyed whatsoever. Well done Christian and Geri, I don't know what you did to Doug, but it looks like it might be working!

To be honest I would 100% be happy with Grimes joining.

It's a loan signing of a player that did well in League 1, not a huge statement of intent by any means. Hull had a load of good loanees last season and it did them no good by the summer.
and had them struggle for the first half of the season and are still in serious danger

Might be good news if so as means we’ve already done all the hard work in regards to the contract
It seems so, i heard about the talks with the CM and RB about a week before the window, so they've obviously been working through things for a long time. When we establish a good relationship like this, they tend to eventually get done.
Whereas we've seen in the summer, when the clubs agree the fee first, the talks can then break down. This is why i'm of the opinion that the player must be keen.
Fair enough the RB talks looks to have broken down, that's football, but this one seems strong.

If we only sign Grimes in this window i doubt anyone can really complain

If it’s true he’s put in a transfer request due to them turning down the offers it only shows how keen he is which is a huge positive

Does Grimes allow us to go back to a back four and play through the middle again? Better protection in front and better passing. Stick Bassette or Rapha wide for a couple of games until one of the lefty superstars is back?
When fully fit id imagine he fits in a midfield 3 of Sheaf shielding the defence, and him and Rudoni in CM. Thats if we play 4-3-3. Be interesting where Torp fits in as Lampard clearly likes him

Cant see him playing as an 8 TBH. Maybe if we go double pivot with Rudoni in the ten but I think he’s crap there.

Would imagine Grimes comes in for Sheaf. So would be a flat three of Torp - Grimes - Rudoni
Lampard seems to giving himself some healthy headaches. Gives us a number of options going forward.

I think people are missing the point with Grimes. He’s here to play in Sheafs role.
If we play them both in CDM then we will have the same problem as when we had both Eccles and sheaf there, no dynamism.

Either sheaf or grimes will play

Gives us flexibility in the middle for the first time in a long time.

Can double-pivot against the strong teams in the division or play two 8's against teams who will sit back

Grimes isn’t an 8 he’s a 6

Why would we and have players out of position if what we are doing now is working?

It's not as if what we are doing isn't getting results.

Grimes will be the number 6, he retains the ball and plays forward with the occasional run with it.

That is what he does, his game is simple.
