"Sale looks inevitable"

The seven-figure tale of how Turkish owner is keeping Crawley afloat - and why sale of star striker looks inevitable

Luton have come into a bit of money thanks to selling Cameron McGeehan to Barnsley. I think Collins will probably end up there.

If George Thomas does leave the development fee will be around the figure for Collins so you could say we've money due too.
Not quite the same as money in the bank but...
There is interest from Peterborough in there striker too with a possible bid of 450k
Marriott to Peterborough? Luton would have to get signing strikers

You'd have to say Luton look favourable but with players back tomorrow I can see recruitment being stepped up so we'd need to move quickly

Why wouldn't he be worth 500K considering the amount of money being thrown about in the Football League alone at the moment?

Thats the problem with football higher up the leagues it creates crazy prices and cascades down.
Reality is he's a top league two striker, who can do it in league one too but that's his ceiling.
I'd say 400k should be tops for him for a league two buyer. 500k if a league one side are interested

Couldn't agree more. This is especially baffling as the majority of successful League 2 strikers struggle to succeed in the higher levels unless they're on a similar level to the Charlie Austins/Andre Grays/Jamie Vardys of the footballing world. Our transfer record alone from signing strikers who found previous success in the lower leagues is evidence enough of this. To name a few; Eastwood who found success at Southend, McDonald on loan at Gills, Robbie Simpson at various Conference teams. But irrespective of this risk, teams are willing to pay over the odds for players such as Collins because it increases the likelihood of gaining promotion, which is priceless to some clubs.

Yeah they can afford to stockpile and take punts but as I say the actions above cascades down the leagues in the market values.

Probably has come to a stall as Crawley try to get the best fee possible, which most likely will be from Luton. Just hope a deal happens either way so it stops it from giving us false hope.

If he refuses to sign a deal with Luton knowing that we're next in line then there is nothing that Crawley can do than accept our offer.

I imagine (hope) that's what the hold up is with Crawly trying to squeeze our offer up.

We can only hope. That's the only thing that we've got going for us in this case, the fact that he's s cov fan!

Good to see we are putting a 6 figure bid in for a player. That for me says we are making a serious push.

IIRC we were waiting for the embargo to be lifted. I did speak to someone in the know, who told me a slightly different version.

If we are in a bidding war the only thing that May sways collins to us is that he is a Coventry fan.

That and the fact he has a young family and lives locally so doesn't want to be travelling to Luton.

Was speaking to his old man in the Walsgrave pub a couple of weeks ago. Cov are interested and have put together a deal of which Collins is satisfied with the personal terms and would prefer to come here being a fan and all.

However, Luton have apparently offered a higher fee, thus Crawley and I dare say his agent, would prefer him to accept.

This is where Collins can exercise his player power. By merely stating he doesn't want to play for Luton and wants to play for the club he supported as a boy.

All in his hands I reckon....

James has scored goals his whole career. He is an out and out finisher. Watched him in his junior days with Morris Rangers. Doesn't possess pace but knows where the net is.
