Latibeaudiere is another who is vastly underrated by our fans, who seem blind to some of his qualities.

This.

He has been acting like a captain recently. Dragging Bassette away from a spat at a corner. Pointing and speaking to fellow defenders. Never thought I’d end up being a fan of his, but happy to be proven wrong!

Really first noticed these qualities away at Sunderland.
Whatever people think of him as a player he definitely has qualities that seem a bit thin on the ground among the rest of the squad

It will all come down to what Lampard wants

Dougs stance on experience and loans is changing in the Jan window as Lampard has told him it needs to happen

If he can convince Doug that Bidwell is still an asset then hopefully it can be extended by a year. Bidwell wants to stay, he's settled here
Well he has openly talked about the benefits of having experience and character in the squad. So in fact did Robins. Doug has shown an ability to listen to advice and modify his approach, I think he will largely agree with Lampard's strategy.

Cant understand some saying that a new LB/ LWB is a priority - focus elsewhere first.
Always liked Bidwell - think he is quality. But - the fact that his injury earlier in the season forced us to change formation leads me to conclude we at least need back up in that position and given his age we should probably be looking for a successor.

I’d offer Bidwell a 1 year deal and he can be back up to a new LB/LWB and I’d try and sell JDS.

Easier said than done.
DaSilva signed on a free, it's probably the right time to move him on as he doesn't really fit in a team playing a back four. Hopefully we can get a fee and the buying club will pay a signing on fee which fully covers any contracted salary for his contract. I can't see a better scenario than that.

Can we just not offer him out as a free transfer in the hope a L1 club takes him? Even part pay his salary for a year if it gets him off the books

Would genuinely give him the armband if we don’t get a leader in for January. Seems a natural captain

Oh it absolutely would be. I just think you’d struggle giving Dasilva away to the circus as it is.
Various managers seem to see something in him. I don’t think we’d have trouble moving him on for nothing.

Well if he has no resale value we may as well keep him and I would argue with our current squad he is very much an asset and more likely to secure points than blindly persevering with DaSilva, hoping he improves when he has shown no signs of doing so in one and a half seasons.

If his contract runs out and we bring in someone new in in the summer fair enough.

Considering he joined us on a "free transfer" we have had good value out of Bidwell and he owes us nothing.

Exactly this. I think Bidwell has done enough to offer him a new contract for a couple of years at least. How much would a replacement cost us, is the way I'd look at it.

If only that thinking had been applied to a couple of our better players who departed over the past two years.

Two very, very poor performances in a row from him.

He made a couple of really vital blocks. Some of his crossing was a bit off, but left massively exposed by EMC, then had Louis "walkabout*" Binks along side him. Don't think Dasilva would have fared much better tonight. Bidwells getting a lot of shit but there were worst performers out there today.

Has anyone got stats for goal let in per 90 based on minutes on the pitch? Collins and Dasilva I reckon up there, but I'm sure Binks must be in a league of his own.

Fact is if jds put in same performance you would give him hell

You just love bidwell and will always show bias to him. It's so obvious in maths threads

Some people do it with Allen too.

Bidwell was far from the worst tonight.

EMC killed him and binks was poor also.

Those last two points are true but that doesn't excuse Bidwell backing off for both goals, the first in particular.

I can't help thinking it's tactical with EMC.
If he's instructed to get back but doesn't would Lampard really tolerate that?

Possibly but there’s also players taking control. Even his output was poor, started 2nd half well, had 3/4 opportunities for decent ball in, nothing.

anyway shouldn’t pick fault too much, onto next week.

Hoping it’s an injury he’s carrying rather than that his legs are gone.

Surprised Lampard hasn’t shifted the 4-4-2 defensive shape for a midfielder to cover LM rather than EMC - as it’s not working away from home

LB is the one position on the pitch where we haven’t invested any significant money in years. We really need a set-and-forget LB in the same vein as MVE.

Bidwell has gone downhill fast, coincidentally not long after he signed a new contract.

He’s certainly regressing but in fairness to him he was left massively exposed numerous times, both by EMC and the midfield.

And every time he sprinted the whole pitch to overlap the pass was crap.

He has been poor recently. Particularly frustrating are his crosses into the box when we're attacking.

Left back has been our achilles heel for a couple of seasons. Hopefully something Lampard will sort in the summer.

On and off the ball has been poor recently.
We know FL likes the back four to get close together and pack the box when teams are attacking down the flanks. That is why you see our fullback retreating into the box.
Bidwell hasn't been great at doing this, possibly not athletic enough, so is often caught half-way, which opens up pockets of space.
This happened a few times last night - then coupled with Binks not being drilled/ match sharp (like Kitching has been)and getting drawn out, caused us all sorts of problems.

Every time he over lapped emc fucked the pass up.

There were two decent opportunities from Bidwell and he hit the first man. DaSvila, for all his faults has far more ability on the ball than Bidwell. Bidwell is so easy to predict because he's either going to attempt a cross or play the first pass backwards.
