He says it in the interview

This is what I could find, obviously in a written snippet it doesn’t have everything he says but I’d love to hear that he said this was the best target out of 25 we were looking at and he’s always been our No.1, that will give me some reassurance. You’d have to assume surely Manneh was No.1 target originally as it’s something we’ve been hearing about for months

He will, it’s just the Swiss league was on a winter break. Hopefully start seeing him soon on the bench.
Well, if Saddles is right (not saying he is), he is saying we won't see Markelo this season..

Whether that's from insider information or just a guess, I don't know.

One of the reason clubs don’t just leave transfers to managers is that they would always focus on now, they would never plan for the future. Managers are judged on now, they will never forward plan.

I wasn’t too bothered that Doug vetoed Bamford because I thought it was because he felt we could do better in January.

It looks now like we won’t sign a striker this window which leaves us just 3 strikers which is fine when all 3 are fit ( given we start with only 1 ) but when we play BTS in the 10, or one is out injured / suspended, 3 is not sufficient …..

If some are correct on our new signing , not possibly seeing him till next season , we seem to be very well off to place him with the likes of Wolfie , as that’s getting on nearly £10 mill playing no part ?

There’s no inside info. Frank said he’s been on a break so we need to get his fitness up and he will have a part to play this season.
Frank wasn't that definitive. He just said he was rusty, unfit and bought as one permanent for the future amongst the loanees.

Yes but now we signed 2 more wingers it means we wont have to play Asante behind the striker as much.

Well why don't teams split the transfer budget? Set a percentage up for now, which the manager has a big say in, and part set aside for longer term projects? You can obviously change the split depending on a season (e.g. if you're looking strong for promotion and need some additions to bolster the current squad).

More weird quote that don’t really support the “manager has the final say” idea that’s vigorously defended on here.

The owner having ‘the final say’ is true for most, if not every single club. From this excerpt, it seems pretty clear to me that Lampard was involved to signing off on the transfer.

Is it? What gives you that impression?

It’s more the “I trust Dean. I talk to Dean. My role as Head Coach is different”. To me seems more consistent with Robins quotes about signings and not being that involved in selection of players.

An interview markelo did in Dutch media said he had 2 teams calls with lampard prior to signing. Lampard even called him as he was about to sign elsewhere.

I think maybe people are misinterpreting what is meant by the owner having the final say,

I don't belief the owner will decide what positions need strengthening or which players are most suitable.

He will have the final say on value for money and what and when money can be spent

Yep exactly. Like he did with Bamford.

Exactly. He signs off the cheques. Lampard had said he is involved in the decision making process to sign a player. It really is a silly myth that he doesn’t by some fans.

Well it suggests Lampard is well involved in transfers which you initmated he wasnt

I’ve not claimed he has zero involvement. But everything from the club suggests it’s mostly about trusting Dean Austin and maybe the manager gives a once over at the end then Doug gives the final yes or no. Frank having a zoom chat doesn’t really change that opinion.

It doesn't work quite like that but it's fair to say Dean Austin and his scouts do the majority of the recruitment/identifying possible signings work.
When the players finish training and have lunch before leaving for home Frank and his coaching team are at Ryton for several more hours.
He also arrives a couple of hours before the players rock up
