Just thought I'd bump this, it's coming off Netflix in December but it is worth watching.

It's only the US version that's losing it to Hulu, we're all good still

It started a few years before that, 2004-5 kind of time. Danny Devito came in for the second series when whoever the network is wanted a 'name' actor, which worked out perfectly

I heard that they approached Devito to invest in the funding of the show and when he read the script he said he would invest if they gave him the part.
Your version sounds more likely to be honest.
