Coventry City captain Carl Baker believes leading the team out at a sell-out Ricoh Arena will be his ‘proudest moment.’
The Sky Blues face Crewe Alexandra in the first leg of the Johnstone Paint Trophy Area Final tonight, with City just two games from a trip to Wembley.
Coventry are set to break the record for the highest attendance at a Johnstone Paint Trophy fixture outside of Wembley, having sold out last week.
The City captain could barely hide his excitement at the prospect of playing in a sell-out Ricoh Arena and leading the team out.
Baker said: “I can’t stop thinking about it and the roar when we talk out of the tunnel is going to be immense. We can’t think of anything else at the moment and I have struggled to sleep for the past three days because I just can’t stop thinking about it.
“I am so proud to be part of the club and the way the tickets have sold is testament to the fans, and shows how big the club can be.
“To play football every week at the Ricoh Arena is a dream come true anyways. But in a game like this, I am so proud to lead the team out as skipper.
“It is going to be a really special moment for myself but as soon as the game starts, we have to be focused on getting the win as it will mean nothing without the result.”
Mark Robins’ side have only lost one game in the last six and sit just outside the play-off positions after an impressive win over Sheffield United.
Baker continued: “I just want to see the fans taste some success for once. It has been difficult for them over the years as this club hasn’t had much to shout about for a long time now.
“Last season was difficult for everyone but we have moved on and our league form has been brilliant. If we can give the fans a day-out to Wembley, I think that will show just how far we’ve come.
“We are going into every game confident and prepared for what we need to do. This game will be no different and hopefully we can get the win the fans want tonight.”
