West Midlands police to be questioned over Israeli football fan ban

BBC News has seen a letter from the Dutch police inspectorate, which appears to contradict claims made by West Midlands Police about Maccabi fans' previous behaviour.

What a complete and utter waste of time and money. Are they going to void the result and replay the match?

Nah not for me but ce la vie.

To me the local community doesn't come into it, I don't think if it was Coventry City it wouldn't have changed the decision by the police?

I think it was just a tinderbox situation and likely to end up pretty nasty.

Not really worth it over a game of football.

It was a dumb decision made to make the police’s lives easier. They should have just done their job.

Well police are people too and if their safety can't be guaranteed then it's clearly not worth it.

How many police would it require? What would the cost be?

It was the right decision, in my opinion, but handled atrociously.

It is a shit show. There were many on here peddling BS about it, and about the incidents that happened in Amsterdam as well. As this puts the record straight beyond any doubt, I am sure their apologies will come at some point today, right?

I don’t really have the time or appetite to relitigate the whole thing, but I would have thought that all football fans would want the police to prioritise actually allowing fans to attend matches rather than pre-emptively declaring them unsafe. If we’re going to let police costs dictate who can attend games then we are going down a very unfortunate path.

What they actually want is overtime pay for doing fuck all, not having to do actual policing.

Fair enough. Personally I think you underestimate the severity of the situation and the likelihood of it kicking off - from a pure risk assessment point of view it was a disaster waiting to happen and for me not worth it. Agree to disagree

Does it? I don't think the story you posted is the gotcha you want it to be. It doesn't dispute or disprove that Maccabi fans have a track record of being pretty sh*t when they travel abroad. Lots of clubs have had limits places on their fanbases home and away because of prior actions.

I never said the Maccabi fans weren't shit heads. I have been pretty clear that I haven't got time for them either. I said that the decision to ban them was because of the authorities and police cannot handle the hostile residents of Birmingham. Instead of admitting that, they said the Dutch had given them intelligence based on what had happened in Amsterdam. Which has now all been proven as a lie, and which I have been trying to tell people since it happened.

As you may know, I have been living in Amsterdam on and off for years. Like Birmingham, there is a high amount of Muslims living there that are very hostile to both the locals, and certainly Jewish people. They kicked it all off last November. Many people on here argued with me and complete denied what had happened, as well as denied what had lead up and driven the decision as well.

The overall point here is that we are having police decisions being made because of the amount of hostile Muslims in these places, and instead of admitting it, they are completely gaslighting people into believing it is for a different reason. The apology line was a bit tongue in cheek, but this all should be hugely concerning to anyone.

You have written more posts on this topic in this thread than comments on the conflict itself, off the top of my head. No thoughts on Israel murdering people in Gaza, plenty on not letting people into a game of football.

Not sure it does that, its not even new information, "we do not see any new facts or circumstances that would warrant revising these findings".

Simple fact is any other club and we wouldn't be talking about this but for some reason despite the club having a track record of trouble both before and after the Villa game it keeps getting pushed back into the news cycle.

German police on Friday launched an investigation into Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters following their conduct before and during Thursday's Europa League match against VfB Stuttgart, which ended in a 4–1 win for the German side.

This is some serious whataboutism.

No one has said their fans are fine. I also have zero time for Hamas or Israel and their military actions. I do however, have more of a vested interest in what happenes in the places I am actually living in.

You know police decisions are made to pander to the Muslim community, of whom the police cannot control. This cements that, and really gives validation to anyone that has been highlighting this issue for some time. It's actually a pretty massive scandal.

You could just hold your hands up and admit you got it wrong at this point.

It’s just an opportunity to smear Muslims for you as far as I’m concerned. The police wanted some cosy overtime and didn’t fancy having to do some actual work for once.

I’m right, unfortunately. Muslims have not been going around causing trouble at football matches in this country, whereas you want to smear them.

Again, you’re writing at length about people not being allowed to a football match, but not about Israel’s war crimes and attempted genocide. The question is why, and we both know why.

Its crazy, there's plenty of examples of away fans being banned. There's even examples of it happening before at Villa in recent seasons.

None of those instances had the never ending press coverage and scrutiny this has had.

In every other instance people just shrug and move on to the next thing.

Tottenham have been strongly associated with the Jewish community for a long time. Have the police ever banned Spurs fans from going to away games because of anti Semitic violence?

What is the make up again of villa fans again, Spanish inquisition to justify this Govts actions to defend the interests of Israel who are equally guilty together, another state that is under their Spell!

More importantly than this football lark.
It looks like Israel is about to attack Iran again.
Russia has withdrawn diplomatic staff from Israel.
Australia has told it's citizens to get out of Iran.

Update, might be a US/Israeli strike and the second city in Iran, Bojnord, has fallen into the hands of Iranian anti-Islamist-regime, pro-Reza-Shah-Pahlavi protesters (probably CIA supported).

The world is looking very dangerous this evening.

You are both too scared to talk about what's actually gone on here. That's really as far as it goes. It is the same pattern as always. You instead deflect, do whatabout, or make accusations. The more you do it, the more silly you look, and it keeps getting even worse than I thought it would.

The evidence was presented to you, which you refused to acknowledge on multiple occasions. This scandal has now fully broken out and the facts are clear as day. Yet, instead of owning it, you've continued to make it about just about anything else whilst saying you are right. It is Donald Trump's best skills which you are displaying!

The police and authorities lied. They gaslit everyone. They banned the fans because they were scared of the actions of the Muslim community. They then lied about it as to not upset them. It's a huge issue for most people in the real world, because not only does it highlight that the Muslim community in Britain and other western countries (the Netherlands on this occasion) is not at one with the society it is supposed to be a part of at all, but also violent, and unable to be policed (obvious to just about anyone with common sense anyway). They are also dictating policy, and the authorities are covering up for them. I mean, where have we heard that before?

Make it about my views and pretend I am talking about every individual if you want. I know it is a coping mechanism. I've said for a long time that this religion is a massive problem and largely incompatible with western values, and all this does is prove it further correct. Whilst sad, there are no lengths to which some people will go to deny it, which is exactly why the left are having such a hard time in general at the moment, because there is a complete lack of any common sense. Their religion goes against almost every progressive ideology you claim to support, yet you defend them over and over again, even when the facts are presented to you.

Enjoy having your heads buried, it must be quite nice.

They're keeping busy. They've also seemingly moved Trumps yellow line in the west to seize more of Gaza and by the day the promise of Palestinians being able to return to the yellow zone seems increasingly unlikely.

Pfttt, return to Gaza, that was always a lie. It will be effectively annexed by Israel over the next 25 years if not sooner.
