Ah fair.

Reading it serious destruction of property counts as well which I’m a little surprised about but terrorism is a term that just means stuff the government really doesn’t like so

Also worth pointing out they don't have to actually carry out any of the specific terrorist activities to be classed as a terrorist activity.

Just threatening one of them is still an offence. Maybe that's where they're being done.

Do we have to consider the possibility that Israel has moved on Iran to keep Gaza out of the spotlight so they can crack on with whatever while it's out of the news cycle?

They did by the law carry out terrorist activity though. As do any direct action group. Property damage with the aim to change government policy counts it seems. Terrorism law is a very stupid law.

This was always the concern when the terror laws were changing. I can remember people protesting it and being told they were clueless, there was no way these powers would be used to ban protests and the like, it would only be used for genuine terrorist threats.

I've not seen anyone say they have an issue with these particular protesters having the book thrown at them, the issue people have is an entire group being labelled a terrorist organisation.

You can extend this to some of the freedom of expression legislation that has seen authorities go too far.

I think the majority of the UK would not have an issue with a group whose sole aim is to attack military and munitions manufacturers as being classes as terrorists

They’re a direct action group, hence the name. Same as XR or JSO. That seems to be the difference. It’s not protests it’s targeted criminal damage.

And we've had that for decades and managed to cope without declaring everyone involved and anyone who says anything to suggest they might support the action a terrorist.

We had weirdos blowing themselves and others up for ages before the Terrorism Act but here we are. It’s always been pretty poor legislation because it just means whatever the last people to change it didn’t like. And the last lot really didn’t like JSO and XR. Equally having spoken to XR activists they all went in knowing they were breaking the law and could be arrested, that was kind of the entire point.

There's nothing stopping members moving to other groups with the same stated end goals but don't advocate direct action/breaking the law. Their right to protest isn't being removed - just the methods

Who's saying they should get a free pass?

As to whether what they're doing is justified, that's a different argument.

At the moment Israel is directly engaged in what many would consider a genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza.

If for some reason you're uncomfortable with that word, genocide, let's frame it as indiscriminately killing, men, women, and children, in very large numbers, of a particular ethnicity, in a specific area. That's undisputed.

To do this, in part, they are using weapons built with the help of companies based in the U.K., and with at least some support, (Palestinian Action claim) of the U.K. military.

From memory, you're pretty strong on what should happen to the 'evil fuckers' who abuse children in this country. What's your opinion on the 'evil fuckers' who are killing children elsewhere in the world?

Free pass from you because it's not your problem? Free pass from you because there's nothing you can do?

If legitimate protest, international law, and public opinion is being ignored by the government, then maybe the only thing left for people who believe that killing and maiming of children is wrong, is civil disobedience.

Have a watch of this, and tell me whether you think the people behind it are "evil fuckers", and whether trying to stop it, is terrorism?

Protest is not supposed to be convenient, it is supposed to be peaceful. With that in mind, I wonder what if any form of protest against Israel’s war crimes is acceptable to those on here

You got examples of protests you feel have been handled more harshly than they should have, or in a way that's inconsistent with the way protests you've mentioned were handled?

Muslim Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic Mayoral primary in New York City, after unequivocally calling Israel’s mass slaughter in Gaza a genocide

Is the Israel lobby’s grip on US politics is being broken?

No. NYC is a special case. Plus his opponent wasn't popular with many for lots of reasons. It's still part a state where progressives have done well. What happens in New York rarely reflects onto the National scene.

Doubt it. NYC isn't a great bellwether. It's like London here, and maybe LA as well. All of them are like countries on their own economically and politically.

If not terrorism it is sabotage of a piece of military equipment which should have a severe punishment imo

Probably also worth pointing out that the people carrying out direct action on military bases 100% know what’s likely to happen if they get caught. One part of direct action can also be having to serve a prison sentence and the fact that it further assists in highlighting a cause.
