After tonight’s debacle & previous games that he COULD have played in , what excuse can we possibly have now for Saturday ?
If he’s NOT playing, why the hell did we buy him ?

Index linked Gary Collier?

Tbf he’s had a career in league one with one season in the championship and about 15 appearances in the Prem.

This is why you don’t sign players based off one miracle season where his whole team were playing above themselves. Have any of those Ipswich players go on to play at a higher level?

Maybe he's struggling to settle here. Can happen.

He was at Ipswich from a very young age. From 2009. That's 17 years at just one club, man and boy.

I wonder if it's that.

He’s only played about 600 minutes for us so far. He may well get another chance and be an important part of the end of our season.

From what I’ve seen so far he looks a good footballer, but not a particularly physical defender.

A bit harsh..

It's only a guess, but his family might not have settled, or his kids could be struggling at school here. If so, he wouldn't be human if that didn't play on his mind..

As I say, it's just a guess. We obviously rated him when we got him, so something has gone wrong somewhere along the line

I guess we will find out at some point.

He plays in a position where up to very recently the players already here have been good. He's been here half a season and frankly anyone who is already calling him a flop is an idiot.

Honestly it wouldnt surprise me if he came with the notion of being first choice, that one of bobby and kitch would inevitably lose their place very quickly and he’d slot in. Then they both started the season very well (and he’d missed most of pre season with us) and couldnt break through to the team, which was exactly the situation he was in at Ipswich and why he left and so he’s not performing in training because his head has gone.
Listen to one of his post match interviews and i think its clear back then he was frustrated as hell not to be playing, tried to hide it with his words but the tone and body language says it all.

i wouldnt judge him off the performances we’ve seen because they’re isolated around not playing again for ages or playing in a 3 not a 2.

wouldnt surprise me if Lati is out performing him in training because lati always knew he’d be a bit part player and is comfortable with it, wolfie didnt and isnt.

If you are saying he is having mental health problems then 100% that would be harsh and I wouldn't even comment in that way but don't think we are in a position to just accept "struggling to settle". Anyway as I said elsewhere "flop" is unproven and ludicrous

And when he has, it’s largely been sporadic appearances, not a decent run of games to settle in.

But yeah, the timing of the original post in this thread is pretty bizarre!

Competition for place's for is not a concept that Frank is buying into.
His use of the squad is lamentable from the owners point of view.
From our POV he hasn't been backed enough, we're crying out for the youth to be let loose on the squad!

Think he was a bit of a panic buy after we failed to get our main target (who was never really available).

Poor strategy to chase Hughes so hard.

Thomas and Kitching have been our established CB partnership for 3 seasons now and when we signed Wolfenden, we had the best defence in the league.

Now that’s changing, perhaps Lampard revisits this again. The premise of this thread is plainly ridiculous and he may find a role at some point.

Agree to an extent, but what's concerning is he can't force his way into the team when others are out of form.

This is what he was signed for; Kitching needs a spell out, so Woolfenden in. Not happened, though.

Long been of the belief that the Kitching/Thomas partnership was the foundation of our best defence. However it's been clear for the last 2 months that they've been well off it. Kitching directly attributable for a few conceded lately and Thomas caught flat footed for Birmingham's 3rd and Norwich's 1st in his last 2 appearances. Coupled with DaSilva's hopeless positional sense and Milan looking a liability (albeit decent last night) then it's little wonder we are shipping goals. The most resilient defensive display recently was the 10 men at Southampton with Wolfendon and Lati at the back.

Maybe time to give them a go.

Him and KKH are going down as some of our most bizarre transfer business we have made in years

It is my hunch there is something more sinister in the Woolfenden situation that is let on, the fact that Latibeaudiere has come in from the cold and jumped his place in the pecking order speaks volumes - I am not claiming to be ITK, but I think there has been a falling out of some description somewhere along the line - Ironically, I actually think given a run of games Woolfenden could do us a job

KKH I like as a footballer, but spending the money we did on a right-back, when we already had one of if not the best in the division was a strange call when we had other areas in the squad that needed addressing first

I am all for Doug giving Lampard more £££ to play with, but I also think we have pissed away nearly £10m of the summer budget on a player who has come in and is clearly not rated and another who was not really required

You could tell by his first interview that he never wanted to leave Ipswich.

With KKH im not sure why we try him in another position rathe than just on the right. He has fast and better at attacking than defending.

Stick him higher up the pitch even in the right centre if chasing a game.

I thought Thomas was way off his best last night. I suspect there is more to why Wolfie is not playing. Perhaps its attitude or something. I would have expected to him to have had more starts by now anyway

Looking at his recent minutes:

Preston - sacrificed at HT as playing v 10 men
Southampton - Excellent
Swansea - Clean Sheet
Ipswich - don't think at fault
Stoke - a few wayward passes

Is he the scapegoat for Ipswich (H)?
