We seem to have more interest in LA and I don't think this has been really discussed.

Seems to certainly be genuine and not just the same burning car being shown over and over again.

It seems almost like race riots from the 70's with resentment on Eastern Europe migration being the significant factor.

Not sure eastern european migration is what's bothering them most tbh

What else are they bothered about?

There seems to be a lot of focus on the leisure centre where migrants were supposedly being temporarily housed.

Let's just pray none of them posted about it on the internet or they'll never see the light of day again.

Being charitable, I think what Evo is meaning is the link to these teenagers being accused (don’t know if there’s been an outcome yet) of sexual assault against a 14 year old girl.

The subsequent mess is absolutely anti-‘migrant’ though.

Were the accused teenagers hiding out in this leisure centre then?

A lot of everything tbh , there is a massive immigration issue in the UK and Ireland and that also brings about cultural clashes and issues with it .

People are fed up.

Governements don't listen to their people

I’ve lost track, is this the thread where protesters must be condemned and brutalised for resorting to violence? Or the one where it’s imperative we address their legitimate grievances behind the rioting? Need to know which team I’m on before I wade in further.

You can discuss both things

Sweet.

Well whatever your view on immigration policy, setting fire to a leisure centre where kids are having a swimming class because you heard it was full of immigrants whose houses had been attacked seems like a pretty scummy way to make your point. Forgive me if I don’t have that much sympathy for them.

I agree , but let's be honest i doubt you'd sympathise with them even if they did it peacefully .

I may be wrong

Larne: Man speaks of fear during rioting at NI leisure centre
A man who was inside a leisure centre in County Antrim as it was attacked on Wednesday night has spoken of the fear felt by customers and staff.

Northern Ireland Assembly Member Danny Donnelly said Larne Leisure Centre was being used by families and children for swimming and classes when it was targeted by about 100 youths and set on fire.

The centre had been providing emergency shelter for families fleeing violence in nearby Ballymena.
I guess they were just really really fed up

Why should I have to sympathise with any protest?

If someone wants to peacefully protest about something then have at it imo

The poll tax riots worked and there was plenty of violence involved .

Its historically been the main way people vent their anger
Violence targeting property and the police is one thing. Violence targeting innocent families?

It was quite an odd take but on 5 Live they sent a WM reporter there. He said that people were putting stickers on their doors to say where they are from. This actually included a lot of East Asian immigrants as they are accepted in the community. This is targeted at East Europeans who have been perceived to refuse to integrate and that the assault was a tipping point that the rest of the community then decided to take matters into their own hands.

Once it ceases to be your own town though….

"A report on international migration said that only 3.4% of Northern Ireland's population (65,600 people) are from a minority ethnic group. That compares to 18.3% in England and Wales, and 12.9% in Scotland."

so that's across the whole of NI. Don't be an apologist for this sh*t. It's people who want to be violent finding an excuse and attacking vulnerable people in their own homes.

Where did the swimming baths come into it?

I saw something that said about a couple of Romanian boys being done for sexual assault, did they think the boys were in the leisure centre?

People who'd had to leave their homes to flee the riots were being sheltered there. It was still open - kids were having swimming lessons etc.
