A back 5 would be stupid and be giving them too much respect, if we overload them preventing them from being able to do the same to us we’ll win, if we let them overload the wide areas they’ll punish us at some point, has to be 4231, Hirst is a physical striker not the game for Woolf to start, maybe sub him on to see the game out later on and go back 5 to soak up pressure and hold the ball. Reckon Tats comes back in Rudi to the bench to come on at around 60, Simms up front. Nothing to fear I think we win 2-0 overdue a clean sheet

Yet many who watched Ipswich regularly this season reckon they struggle more against 3/5 man defences

The first goal is crucial Saturday looking at Ipswich previous games.
We score first and the crowd will get right on their backs with their recent poor form and looking at these past nine results they dont come back

Blackburn - let in first - DRAW
Oxford - let in first - LOSS
Hull - scored first - WON
Wrexham 0- no goal - DRAW
Swansea - scored first - WON
Watford - let in first - DRAW
QPR - scored first - WON
West Brom - scored first - WON
Charlton - let in first - LOST

For the first time this season.. “I’d take a draw”.

Mostly to do with injuries and the fact that the bookies still have Ipswich as our nearest rivals. Keep the status quo of 15 points above them (mad typing that) going into this congested period with a small squad. They get it down to 12 points and we have a tricky December then it’s all within striking distance again

Play near as well as we can and we should win.

No point in worrying about injuries when the only person who is definitely out is BTA. If we can I would play last weekends team but swapping Saka for Rudi who can come on with 35 to 40 minutes left as he probably needs a bit of rationing due to his shoulder.

Play the high pressing direct style we have and you'd hope that is enough, they like to play out from the back even though their CBs are not very good at it so we can hopefully force a few mistakes.

Didn’t realise how much they chop and change every game. Looking at their last few games they seem to make at least 4 changes every game. Probably explains the stuttering form.

Smells of a manager scrambling around for a winning formula. The comments on him on their forum are a bit ridiculous though, he did something exceptional but the natural consequence of it was that the squad would be dismantled. It’s very hard to just rebuild the cohesion you need to go up from this division.

Those who planned on going by train

They have called strike action for the weekend off and a full service is to run as planned

According to Copilot.

Ipswich vs Coventry is expected to be a tight, high‑energy Championship clash, with most predictions leaning towards a narrow Ipswich win (2‑1), though Coventry’s superb form makes them dangerous.

Ipswich Town
• Recent Form: Mixed results – 2 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss in their last five.
• Lost 1-2 to Oxford United (A)
• Beat Hull City 2-0 (A)
• Drew 0-0 with Wrexham (H)
• Won 4-1 vs Swansea (A)
• Drew 1-1 with Watford (H)
• Strengths:
• Strong home resilience, rarely losing at Portman Road.
• Creativity from Jaden Philogene and attacking threat from George Hirst.
• Weaknesses:
• Confidence slightly dented after the Oxford defeat.
• Vulnerable against in‑form attacking sides.

Coventry City
• Recent Form: Outstanding – five consecutive wins, including against Middlesbrough, West Brom, Stoke, Sheffield United, and Charlton.
• League Position: Top of the Championship with 43 points from 18 games.
• Strengths:
• High confidence and momentum under Frank Lampard, who has revitalized the squad.
• Dangerous attacking trio: Mason-Clark, Eccles, and Simms.
• Weaknesses:
• Away games can be tricky, though they’ve won 6 of 9 on the road, scoring 25 goals.

🔑 Key Battles
• Midfield Control: Ipswich’s creativity vs Coventry’s energy and pressing.
• Ipswich Attack vs Coventry Defence: Hirst and Philogene trying to break down a confident back line.
• Coventry Attack vs Ipswich Defence: Simms and Mason-Clark looking to exploit gaps.

Predictions
• Coral Preview: Ipswich 2-1 Coventry
• BetOnValue: Coventry’s form makes them favorites, but Ipswich’s home advantage could balance it
• Consensus: Expect goals on both sides, with Ipswich slightly favored at home, but Coventry’s winning streak means this could swing either way.

👉 In short: Ipswich’s home strength vs Coventry’s winning momentum makes this one of the Championship’s standout fixtures. Expect 2–3 goals, with Ipswich tipped for a narrow win, but Coventry fully capable of extending their streak.

Would you like me to break down the betting odds and likely scorers (e.g., George Hirst vs Ellis Simms) to see where the smart money is going?

against teams that regularly play a back 5, we looked shaky in a 5 against Boro, I’d rather start as usual and overload them in wide areas, makes more sense for us to stick as we are, we are the big fish this season teams look to counter us. There’s nothing to fear about Ipswich other than their wingers, and in the 4231 our wingers offer extra protection to the fullbacks, also we lose the midfield battle when we take a man out of it, it seems pointless to sacrifice the midfield battle as it’d lose us the game

Unfortunately, that's my prediction. A 2-1 defeat.

I feel we could be missing some key players.

If I knew Wright, Saka and Rudoni were all good to go, I might be a little more optimistic.

Just very nervous about this one.
