Any chance we'll start 3-5-2 at Ipswich?

There’s a chance of it because Ipswich have struggled against teams that play 3 CBs and wing backs. A quick scan shows the only team playing 5 defenders is Swansea. They’ve played Bristol, PNE, Charlton, Blackburn, Wrexham, Derby, Southampton and even Bromley. Whilst they’ve won 1 win in 9, they’ve only lost two games (PNE & Charlton) so if we did opt for that formation, it signals we’re happy with a draw.

The only issue I have is that a 3-4-3/5-3-2 involves taking out Eccles or Rudoni. Otherwise, it could be a good fit considering our walking wounded.

I could see a 3 at the back, let them have the ball and hit them on the break like Oxford did. Something like:

Rushworth
Thomas Woolfenden Kitching
MVE Torp Grimes Dasilva
Sakamoto Simms EMC

All depends who’s available

Could really do with Sakamoto to track the Leif Davis runs, MVE and Sakamoto vs Philogene and Davis is where it could be won or lost

They have struggled all season. They are slow going forward and are never far from making a mistake at the back. They do get attempts on goal but need a goalscorer.

Whichever way we play we should be the better side. We're not flying for no reason. We should play to our strengths and to the best system for the players we have fit and not for our opponents. Their defence will struggle with our attacks whichever way we play.

Why are we worrying over Ipswich ?
They tried to save their “ better “ players last night , but had to put them on in the second half & were fortunate to get a draw at Blackburn .
They are a mess & nothing like the team that gained promotion , so it will be them that worry about us ……top of the league ….. 50 goals …… we will put them to the sword ……. Another 3 goals City

Rushworth
MVE Thomas Wolf Kitching Dasilva
Sakamoto Torp Grimes EMC
Simms

Wilson
Lati
Bidwell
Perry
KKH
Eccles
Allen
Andrews
Brau

Can’t see anything other than a defeat unfortunately. Need help in January and not signings like Manneh or Varela please.

It isn't even as though they're necessarily saving their best players. Their manager doesn't seem to know their best players or systems. They keep making mistakes at the back. They get plenty of chances most games but struggle to score. Slow at going forward.

They have good players just like we do. But the big difference is we have players that play as a team and we have a system that works.

How do you go from one of the most promising young managers in the game to one dimensional and out of ideas in the space of what a year? Also how on earth do you explain the appalling scattergun

That was one of the worst championship games i've watched in a while, between two very poor sides. Neither could defend, neither could string 5 passes together and had no ideas in the final third.

Will take a big upturn in their performance, or us missing most our players (both possible) for me to be happy with a point now! I can't see how their defence deal with us....famous last words i know!

I think available personnel could play in to it, and I'm not convinced there won't be 2 or 3 missing.

Interesting read, I thought at the time that our summer transfer window was a success because we kept hold of our best players who looked likely to leave (Rudi & Milan), and managed to bring in an excellent goalkeeper, we had a great team spirit and togetherness last season and have kept it with the same group of players this season. I would be happy with another non eventful transfer window in January (barring any injury crisis) and keeping the same group to take us to the Premier league.

Careful mate, the 2nd child is always conceived a lot more quickly.

9 months for our 1st.

I only had to breathe on my wife for the 2nd

Not worried about Ipswich. Their defence is average and will be no match for us if we play on the front foot.

Plus the Simms redemption arc is in full flow.

Agreed. However, we're missing BTA, Wright (50:50), Sakamoto which probably means that we'll end up playing a variation of 5-3-2 even if we don't start with it.

I'm leaning towards naming an unchanged team to start and finishing the game playing 5-3-2/3-4-3 and it depends on Rudoni's fitness imo.

If we switch to a 5, Woolf will either have a stormer or shit the bed. He has a very big axe to grind against McKenna by the sounds of it.

I am sure Woolf will play a part but may not start. Tactics will change once we have a lead to shore up the back. The key is having a decent RW too. If Saka isn't fit, I'm not sure Rudi is the answer. KKH needs a crack

Lampard said he'll either be back for either Ipswich or Preston but remained to be seen which was the more likely.

Wright will probably be back though.

No idea, probably Southampton, Ipswich and Brum, who for my money, are all good bets for promotion

Well no, but as mentioned FL did confirm he was a doubt.

Looking at the enhanced care pathway it seems like players can only return before day 12, which is the earliest RTP, under exceptional circumstances so I would've thought Preston was the more likely of the two for him to feature in.
