How some people have watched that game and concluded that Rushworth’s communication was a talking point. Wowzers.

Errr….

Oggy was talking about it during the match.

“wowzers”

Are you 12?

Is Oggy not as smart as you with regards goalkeeping?

It shows how important Sakamoto is to us. That balance, skill, vision, work rate and balance is really missing from the right hand side when he's out injured.

So you’re not formulating your own opinion but that of Oggy, the goalkeeping summariser to make it seem like you know what you’re talking about, after he’s made a passing comment during an incident in the match. Makes sense. Don't get me wrong I like Wilson and think he’s brilliant to have in the dressing room. But your post is clear that you’re making an argument to bring him back and forcing the issue. The GK that would probably struggle to get on the pitch for a L1 side now regularly, over the one that is being tapped up by England. Go figure.

No. Not at all. Never once said bring Wilson back in this thread; simply that he wasn’t as good technically yet was more vocal. I believe that him being vocal contributed vicariously to clean sheets.

WRT Oggy, I was replying to your suggestion that no one mentioned his lack of communication. Oggy has, so I pointed that out.

“Tapped up by England”…well, Pickford is in goal and not Rushworth. Pickford yells and screams and shouts “mine”, “leave” and so on.

My point, which I’ll stick to, is that Rushworth needs to do just that; call for the ball.

Ever shouted “man on” at a match?

Have a good night.

I know we lost 3 nil, but the back was less of an issue for me.We went too high chasing, but I'd rather we did have a go than defend a 1-0 defeat.

Biggest issue I thought today was no width or creativity. KKH for 10 or 20 at the end with tired legs and his pace is fine, against good opposition he's not a winger. EMC on the other side didn't want to go past and looked very pedestrian. No service to Ellis. Rudoni didn't look match-fit and struggled.

Eccles was a bit understandably tentative after his booking and Grimes ran miles covering lots of ground but not as progressive with the ball as usual.

Difficult to score really so I won't. Heads definitely dropped after the Hirst decision rather than galvanise and we just seemed a little off it for whatever reason.

Ah well onto Preston.

Missing BTA AND Saka AND Torp all at the same time, is a huge loss.

I've not heard any interviews yet, was either Saka or Torp a late change? I assumed so as Varney was on the bench. Wonder if that upset our balance and KKH was a late replacement?

Both Lamps and Grimes said that was not a 3-0 and they are right. If you chase a game and don't score, always a chance of breakaways. Lots of our best players missing or not fit and the rest looking shagged out. We were the best team in the first half overall.
KKH out of position missed a sitter and was at fault for their first goal.
Absolutely nothing went for us today. Their goalie was MOM and the ref made a dreadful bottle for the second yellow.
Still waiting for someone to pin the defeat on JDS.

TBF the game was one of them you watch pass you by. We dominated possesion overall more than 60/40 away from home with a patched up side lacking crucial players and a last minute sick note to add to the day. Sometimes momentum stalls and after a whole week off that's what it looked like. No one truly at their best and that combination and change of formation, new players in and players out of position it looked like something was lacking. It could easily have been different had eccles scored and hirst rightfully sent off. And that sums up the day. A stark reminder that nothings for free in this league and I'm certain with one or two back for Preston, it will be business as usual.

We play poorly everytime we have a winger missing. We overcame it against Charlton at home, but away, against up for it teams, we lack something. Frank swears by using wingers in his game plan. We need more cover as we will get found out. Simple as

It's usually 2 weeks for concussion on the concussion protocol, so there's a good chance Sakamoto will be ok for Tuesday.

It is imperative that we get a right winger on board in January.

We may have dominated possession but we did nothing with it. 62% possession but an xG of 0.67, which must be our lowest by some margins this season.

Open play just 0.27 xG compared to Ipswich 1.27.

I know it was only a short cameo but I thought Andrews was brilliant when he came on, really dynamic. He should surely be pushing for a few more minutes.

All the stats show that it was an even game, Ipswich defended well, made twice as many clearances. More interceptions, more tackles. As usual we had more touches in the opposition box but not as many as our general rate.

Frankly, a weakened team came up against a decent team.

I wasn't that impressed with Ipswich tbh I thought they looked poor.
The score line definitely flattered them, but had we been anywhere near full strength and up for it, we would of battered them.

They were lucky to be 1-0 up at the break, which was against the run of play, and but for some great saves they could quite easily have been behind.

The second yellow card incident definitely seemed to rattle us for some reason, and we failed to step up a gear in the second half.

Obviously we are going to miss Sakamoto and Torp, but even so KKH and EMC offered no quality in the final third, and Rudoni is clearly not 100% fit yet.

Tuesday is a great opportunity to get back on track, and a first win at Preston would really make a statement.

The PSxG for that shot was still quite low actually, only 0.05.

Our highest post shot xG was a header from Simms second half.

Well for a start Wilson's manic shouting had nothing to do with his golden gloves award, it was due to us playing 5 defenders and 2 defensive midfielders.

When 7 out of your 10 outfield players are there to protect your goal its no suprise that you keep more clean sheets.

One occasion when the Keeper and Kitchen went for the same ball doesn't mean there is a fundamental floor.

Rushworth wasn't at fault for any of the goals we conceded today, we were caught out trying to over commit up front, and 3-0 isnt a true reflection of the game.

If you want to pinpoint reasons for this below par performance then there were many, but Rushworth wasn't one of them.

We've scored 50 goals already this season, but when your starting line up is missing Wright, BTA, and Torp that's more than half the teams firepower gone straight away. Add to that the absence of Sakamoto and the chances he creates, and you can see that we are going to be light upfront.
Once we went a goal behind (against the run of play) it was always going to be a struggle. But even then their keeper had to be alert to keep a clean sheet.

In short, no fault can be put on Rushworth.
The problem is clearly in defence and going on about Torp and Haji is totally missing the point. The attack has been bailing out the defence for weeks so we have been getting away with it. Eventually somebody would call our bluff. Not saying I told you so, although actually of course I am.

5 games in November, fell behind 3 times once by two goals. In another we let the opposition get back into a game from a two goal lead. It's been there for all to see but football fans' predilection for hyper optimism blinded people.

Blaming Rushworth is bonkers. He is the exact opposite of Wilson. Whereas Wilson had an armchair ride from his defence, Rushworth continually has to clear up the mess his defence has left him

For those slating Rushworth, get a grip. He saved two almost certain goals and was unlucky with the second one on one. The other two were well struck and unsighted making them almost unsavable through groups of players

While agreeing with your general point about Rushworth people forget Wilson outperformed his expected saves in his golden gloves season.

I don't rate him at all but he was decent in his golden gloves season regardless of how good the defence in front of him was, but yeah, nowhere near the keeper Rushworth is, or Dovin for that matter

I think we could do with a LW too. I feel EMC often doesn't create enough from that position and we need something different available.

We could try and move Wright over from time to time and that has worked in the past but it doesn't feel like there's much competition there.

Don’t want to bang on about it too much but it is obvious defence is our issue. And the main issue is our full backs. Put simply they are better going forward than defending. Positionally they are dire. It’s why we concede a lot of goals. Luckily we’ve been scoring a few as well!

Not talking about yesterday. It’s a theme. We concede lots of goals. Off the top of my head West Brom. Two goals via completely absent full back positioning. It’s a choice we make which is working. But we’re never going to be able to shut up shop, so if we don’t keep taking chances there will be days like yesterday.
