If North Macedonia reach the world cup I wouldn't fancy playing them.

England would beat them , we do well against sides like them these days , set piece or 2 would undo them

We should. They've beaten Germany & Italy away though. Horrible team to play against. Watched the game, defending was immense.

Fail to qualify for 2 consecutive World Cups but win the Euros in-between. Crazy.

To be fair I'm probably being too ridiculous with my thinking , Italy 9 out of 10 times win tonight .. it was just that 1 night tonight

I’m sure they missed a late penalty to beat Switzerland too. There was A LOT of complacency in the media about the game tonight.

They did mate. Absolute shocker of a result tonight though. I can't even imagine what it would be like here if that happened to England.

The same sort of reaction England get when they "only" beat a team like North Macedonia 2-0 probably

Crazy to think that the last time Italy won a World Cup knock out game was the 2006 final. The last game they played in the tournament was when Suarez bit Chiellini. Even just three years ago I doubt anyone saw what was coming for North Macedonia. Got to give it to Wales too. They deserved the win. I didn’t like the idea of the Nations League at first but I was wrong. It’s been a worthwhile addition to the calendar and last night proves that.

People mock England for its World Cup and euro performances even when we get to semi finals and a final

Italy’s World Cup record since 2006 is a disaster

We've gone from being in the wilderness failing at the first knockout hurdle and group stages for years to regularly going deep in tournaments.

Change doesn't happen overnight.

Is there anyone who would rather be an England fan than an Italy fan over the last 20 years?

It's not about saying we're better than them and preferring us, it's about recognising where we've come from and what our direction is.

We're now a positive team that has looked capable of winning something for this first time since '96, and that was an outlier, and yet people want to rip it all up chasing some notion of instant success that would in all likelihood send us backwards.

People argue that we have a golden generation being wasted. That was '06. We have 1 genuine world class players and a lot that wouldn't get into other teams squads. We're doing very well and are criticised because people's natural instinct is to shit on England.

I mean over the past 20 years, not the next 20. I don’t doubt that England can expect a brighter immediate future than Italy.

Italy have won the World Cup and the Euros over the past 20 years….nevermind their crap WC record recently, the only team it would be better to support over the same time period would be Spain.

I don't get what relevance Italy's success has to England's development if I'm honest.

They’re pretty pissed off to say the least and going on about how Italian football has been messed up for ages starting at grassroots level and needs a major overhaul.

we won the World Cup in 66 and didn’t qualify again until 1982 it was depressing not watching the team competing in the World Cup

So from 2002 onwards, you’d rather have been an England fan than an Italy fan?

Random. Yes as England are in every major tournament and not kicking their heels at home for two world cups in a row

A tournament where you have to get behind a random team eg ROI in 94 is very dull
