Smith has averaged 40 games a season for the last 4 or 5 campaigns. That's really good.

Know nothing about him as a player though.

Bit odd to have a clubs owner tweeting out details of everything that's going on. We'd all like more communication from SISU but that seems to be taking it a bit far!

It's quite a rare name, so a good chance I'd say

Was he any good at kicking a football?
If not it might just be him...

Maybe he has to physically sign on the dotted line which requires him to be at Ryton in person.

I thought this. Although I like how Peterborough are run I personally think MacAnthony is a complete rogue and highly unprofessional, always have done. Yes, he has excellent communication with the fans but some matters should be left confidential.

'We're actually going up' City fans on Michael Smith

Seriously? Does anyone actually think we're promotion contenders yet?

The side is still lacking in goals a attacking threat yet the telegraph are saying us fans or one... think we really are going up.

Early summer signs seem good yet all attacking threat is yet to be assembled. George Thomas is yet to signal what his plans are... and support for McNulty brought in.

Far to early to call for promotion

Before we talk of promotion we need another goal scorer, George Thomas to sign and a good centre half. Then I'll get excited.

The squad that starts the season could still be very different from what we have now and even if it isn't I would be very hesitant to start claiming we've going up.

Lets wait and see how things are a few weeks after the window shuts.

No idea why people give it that, usually find they get so excited and optimistic they are even more angry if it doesn't happen. Same with takeover stuff.

Will have to see the squad come the first day of the season (and maybe even loan window if needed).

I seem to remember the CT running a similar, 'We're definitely going up now' story full of fan quotes (well, at least one) when Armstrong extended his loan to the end of the season. And that worked out fine, so I would agree that we are definitely going up.

I have my reservations about promotion. Even if we have a competitive squad, it is as much luck as it is quality on the pitch that will tip us over the line into those playoff/automatic spots. I agree with the above, without another striker I think we'll struggle on the goals front. It's previously been identified that without an effective partner alongside McNulty, he will struggle. Obviously the ideal would be James Collins, but how likely that is, is another matter for another thread.

If we manage to get the Smith deal over the line I think it will be a promising acquisition. Consistent performer, solid and experienced. He'll definitely provide great competition to DKE to push on and progress. Clean sheets are imperative to any promotion push, so we'll obviously need these types of players coming into the squad to achieve them.

Signing Collins would get us into the play offs. That's the key area we need to address in my opinion. Goals!

Agree about a goal scorer but from the players in already and those who are rumoured to be on the way it looks like Robins is also looking for leaders who will step up to support our talented kids. That was our biggest failing last year. Look at all the points we dropped from winning positions because of our lack of game management experience

Talented kids? George Thomas is one but who are the others? Much prefer proven league 2 players

He's clearly identifying men and leaders with game time experience that will compliment our academy players and other youthful inexperienced players.

As you rightly say them three things were partly our undoing at times last year.

League two will be no walk for us and will be a massive challenge to bounce back. I believe the stats on teams bouncing straight back up ain't great I'm sure I read a few months back as Doncasters campaign wobbled.

Striker a must. Smith i think would be a squad player D K E should hold that position James please, keeping Thomas also. As for certain promotion I think the other teams will see games against us as their games of the season . Loads of pressure can we cope?

I would say Stevenson and Harries are also talented players which is why most likely they'll be joining clubs (at least) two divisions above us for six figure fees.

Our best seasons in League 1 had a quite a few young players in them, likes of Maddison, Armstrong, Murphy in 15/16 and Thomas, Wilson and Christie in 13/14. You need a mix of both in my opinion. Last season we were lacking good senior players are Fleck and Vincelot were sold/left and it was down to the kids to try and save us.

Would say them two have the potential but would be better off going to these prem/champ teams. Less rough and tough then league 2. Would be better suited higher up

Just spoke to my mate who's a Bristol rovers fan. He said 'Was a top right back for us and a fans favourite. Was sold for a decent fee but lost confidence, if he gets that back he will easily be the best right back in the league'. Sounds promising.

Agree about potential and from their point of view (money wise) they probably would be better off higher up but from City's point class player are class and good players will always cope with "rough and tough"

If they went to prem/champ teams, they would likely go out on loan to league one or two to develop and get first team game experience before getting anywhere near the first team.

I started later in life, so my lad is on his way to Secondary school in September and I have just retired (albeit early!) I have a mate younger than me who is a grandparent to a lad only a year younger than my lad. Messes with my head, sometimes - though if you had seen me at Wembley I reverted to teenage behaviour, and am still a big kid at heart!

Started young myself. Problem is I couldn't forget the recipe.

Had first in the 80's. She is 31 now. Had kids in each decade except for this one....and that was close. If he came 6 weeks later I would have had at least 1 kid 4 decades on the trot. And im still not even 50

My kids keep me young. I don't have a lot of choice. Youngest are 7 and 8. Then 15. 3 in their 20's and the 31 year old. Only 2 grandkids so far.

Blimey Astute - you'll never be lonely at Christmas will you! My aim is to live to a good old age so I can be around for my lad as long as possible (not a lot of relatives for him, so he'll have to build his own ;family'), - although if I'd have been a woman I'd have had a better chance - most of the women make their 90s in our family, whilst the blokes don't fare so well (dad died younger than I am now from a nasty version of the big 'C'). Anyway, have to admire the way you have create 'Team Astute' around you (and still afford Lake Garda etc etc!)
