Spoke to a mate today who is a financial controller for the EFL.

West Brom in absolute dire trouble, were meant to be going on a financial plan with the EFL this week hence the fire sale. Message they're putting out is selling players in last year of contract to appear like it's solid future planning, reality is that they're in huge bother.

Coventry extremely well run apparently, solid finances, have invested significantly but against a very healthy income.

I know people would love to have Doug selling his own mother and giving us all his own cash but how bloody refreshing is this after years of chaos.

Yes Doug has made mistakes with a few things but in general the club as a whole is being run in a very calm measured way

Norwich must be at a similar point? Admittedly they have far more assets they could sell for big money.

It is fun watching clubs go tits up after using their parachute payments to overspend, trying to get back to the PL.

Posted a comment in the BTA transfer thread that's got a few laughs.

Think we really need to start calling our owner Deadly Doug after his transfer dealings. Always gets his man, normally at a cut price valuation. Especially with his use of the dreaded "Promotion Bonus Clause" ™️

What I heard and mentioned on the BTA thread was correct then... bad owners or have the new regime bought a bin fire?

I’m told this is true which is why the prices have come down quickly …They really don’t want to lose Fellows who they see as having the highest ceiling ….

According to transfermarkt his market val is 600k and he can play RM/RW/RB. Would be ideal for us.

I don’t think he did.

We needed WBA to make an exit payment to Swift for him to transfer as his wages were much higher at WBA. They wouldn’t and he wouldn’t take a pay cut.

Might be getting muddled with someone else but didn't he come out after and say that the move had been first put to him on transfer deadline day and he hadn't really had time to consider?
No, think he said that there was interest but he wasn't interested...more along those lines. Thinking back, this was last summer, not Jan I think too...think we might have also gone back in Jan too though....

I was going to say, I thought it was summer. That was a year ago, might feel differently now but to me it always felt a bit like we were only interested because other plans had fallen through.

"To be honest it was so late in the window, I had no idea of it and when it did come about I knew it was two days left and nothing was going to get done – and even if it did I didn’t really want to leave."

Typical, FF. And there was me thinking you weren't the one I would expect to drop a fly in my custard :ROFLMAO:

Agreed, some targets have evaded us. But that doesn't sit right with the joke I was making. So I've ignored all of them 😋
