Changes to be made for next game
Coventry City manager Mark Robins will tell his players they need to improve their decision making and passing at both ends of the field if they are to start winning games.
Robins may make changes for the next two games, both in London, at Brentford on Tuesday and Leyton Orient on Saturday. He made changes during the 2-1 home reverse to Notts County last Saturday bringing on Steven Jennings and Cody McDonald which gave a static Coventry side a little more impetus. Robins may opt to give both players a start at Griffin Park, Brentford.
Looking back on the Notts County game, Robins told the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole: "We created an unbelievable number of chances but couldn’t take them we gave away two sloppy goals so of course I’m disappointed.
"It’s frustrating because we all want to come and see the perfect match when we’re popping the ball around, creating chances and taking them. That’s where we want to get to, those are the things we need to work on – we have to stay true to what we want to do, create a possession-based style of play, but make sure it’s exciting for the supporters.
"They tried to play but they’re perhaps taking me too literally. I’m saying that I don’t want them to smash the ball from back to front, I want to work it through the thirds and pass with a purpose, but you can’t have a possession-based style of play if it keeps going back to the goalkeeper.
"There’s got to be an element of risk and we don’t seem willing to do that at the moment. We didn’t pass the ball forward enough and when we did we were naive; we didn’t work hard enough to get on the ball in the right areas. We ended up slowing the game down; that’s my complaint, but that’s something that will evolve if we keep working hard.
"It’s going to take time; we’ve got a young squad and I think that showed today. It was perhaps a little bit of a step too far for that bunch of players, but we’ve got plenty of options as the Under-21s proved on Friday night.
“James Bailey had a stomach bug overnight and his energy levels weren’t what they normally are. I think you could see that and when Jennings went on and made a difference. Callum Ball is a young player and it might be time for him to come out and have a rest.
"The two full-backs are key, you’ve got to have two positive full-backs and I felt they weren’t adventurous enough today. Rather than being on the back foot we need to be on the front foot, take the game to them.
"There will be spells in the game when we need to dig in, go narrow and get men behind the ball, but when we win the ball we’ve got to try to explode out and counter quicker than we did.
"It’s down to really small margins. Cody McDonald got himself into some good positions. David McGoldrick, who has been on fire, had one of those days where nothing went for him.
"We had two or three that flashed across the face of the goal and to be fair they did fantastic, throwing their bodies in front of the ball. We want somebody there who’s going to do that job but we want decent footballers as well, so it’s just a question of getting that balance, but we need to put in a decent performance in the next two away games.

Would he bring in Cody for Ball?

I think Bailey and Jennings are the same sort of player but Bailey has a bit more energy and urgency!

Sounds like it ,not happy about the fullbacks getting forward enough either,he's also mentioned about age and naivety so you never know one of the seniors might return also.

I would like to see Jennings in for Baker, play moussa right midfeild and just let Jennings and Bailey keep it simple in the middle. Or Jennings in for Ball, push moussa behind MCG and go back to one up front away from home.

MR is obviously aware of what most of us fans can see. That's a refreshing change in itself. I do think he was wrong to play Bailey if he had a bad stomach during the night though. For once a critique of his stance. However we have a large and very useful squad and there are plenty of options.
Personally i would bring back Christie, McDonald and McSheffrey for Tuesday. Jennings is a defensive midfielder who goes sideways and backwards - the very thing MR is alluding to being a fault with us at the back. We need to be on the front foot attacking in this league. McSheff was poor first few games but the last couple he played in he showed some good signs of form rebuilding and he is a player who can change things if only for a moment and win you a game. With Cody and McGoldrick we are forced to play the ball to feet and that also suits McSheff in the whole. MR stated he wants to play this way so lets see those changes on Tuesday and get back to winning ways. Think we will win easily tbh.

Of cousre there's just one problem with what we're all recommending and He's identifying ,the side will find it nigh on impossible to settle find a rythym, become confident ,understand each others qualities.

Without wanting to sound like a broken record .....

We need:

Strength
Pace
&
Width

At the moment we have the likes of Baker, Fleck and Barton etc. merely being shrugged off the ball. We're too weak.

We lack width. At least the kind of width that gets to the byline and puts crosses in.

Not enough pace. We are constantly hit on the break by faster, pacier sides.

I said "a large and very useful squad". Oh and it's 'our' squad by the way ;)

Oh it's " a large and very useless squad" by the way.

As Stupot and myself keep saying, we have some good players we have brought in here. We just have brought in the wrong players for this league.

I would start with

-------------Murphy
Bailey--Cameron--Wood--Hussey
Baker--Jennings--Moussa--Fleck
-----------Ball-----Mcgoldrick

I think Reckord was pretty poor last game, I think Clarke needs to be taken out for a few games and I don't really rate Christie too much. Bailey has played RB before so should do ok for a short time.
I am also intrigued to see Henderson play, he came with good reports from the Arsenal fans and Robins described him as having a wand of a left foot so I have been disappointed not to see him play yet

Christie in for Clarke. Hussey in for retard. Jennings in for bailey. Macdonald in for ball. These are the maximum changes I think he'll make. He's certainly not gonna start playing people out of position, Doesn't need to.

I like the idea of Bailey at right back as Clarke is not having a great time at the moment. He'd likely be a better option both going forwards and back.
Having said that, I think he looks like a very tidy footballer and can pick out a good pass, and his presence in the centre would probably be missed.

I feel sorry for Baker at the moment too. It's obvious that he was putting a shift in on Saturday, but on the attacking front, almost nothing came off for him. I'd put it more down to being one of those days rather than him being genuinely awful. It does seem to happen far too often with Baker though.

I'm not really sure what Moussa offered in midfield on Saturday. Looked lost at times and never got into the game. Think he'd be better suited out on the right.

im pretty sure he used his left foot mainly on sat and shot with his left foot when he had time.

He's definitely relight footed -
"Franck can play central or right-sided. He's got enough pace, he's tricky and can score so he gives us utility across the midfield." Robins

From the BBC Match script Southend vs Southampton:

Corner taken right-footed by Franck Moussa from the left by-line, clearance made by Radhi Jaidi.

Don't understand why baker is being singled out. He's no worse than anyone else, his mistakes are highlighted because he doesn't hide, always wants the ball. I think he's guilty of trying too hard at times
