Immigration and Asylum (3 Viewers)

The thing is that this man wasn’t let in, he was waiting for an asylum claim to be processed.

He was kept in a hotel because we couldn’t be arsed to hold people away from densely populated areas. His claim hadn’t been processed because we have too much of a backlog and not enough staff.

All the mother has said is let’s not smear all asylum seekers as being equivalent to this murderer. I don’t think that’s even a controversial statement.

You at least make some fair points.

The whole situation is extremely fucked and there's half a dozen stories this week alone which just validate that. The one about the guy getting another boat back and then the Epping bloke getting released by accident sound like they were both made up by a bloke down the pub.

The guy being released by accident would be funny if it weren’t a certified rapist.

Apparently the backlog is coming down, but that was posted by a guy who wants people dead if they’re too right wing, so I need some other data on it.

My favourite police incompetence story was a few years back of a two month manhunt for a missing bloke in Scotland, who was then found dead at the bottom of his own garden by a member of the public!

So the bloke that did the murder was out hanging out with some mates after buying beer from a local store recording the aftermath just around 100 ft away.i despair.

Apparently we're getting it wrong only via yt but there's a story out there that the Greeks are sending them to the bottom of the med,no boats watching then, wouldn't have thought so.

The whole people trafficking network is as complex as drug smuggling and that is currently unstoppable too. It involves gangs from Africa, Asia to the Balkans and UK citizens involved too. If there is money to be made it brings out the worst in society.

You also have countries like Russia purposely forcing migrants across its western borders to put strain on European countries. They are also engaging and funding conflict in Africa to destabilise and drive migration too, whist rinsing them for precious commodities.
As in real terms the wealth divide between the stronger economic countries and poor widens migration will only continue, conflicts (est.184 world wide) and climate change will only exasperate it.
The world is and has changed from the order many of us grew up in and I do worry about the future our children will face across a number of levels.

Sorry if thats a bit gloomy for a Friday night.

There were two world wars fought last century for lesser reasons.
I think the promotion celebration bus may well stay parked in the garage although for different reasons offered on a recently created 'controversial' thread.
Still, every (mushroom) cloud - All you top loyalty point holders will no doubt pull a cushy desk job back here in blighty.

Who says we're not at war already with our enemies, just not with rifles and Spitfires this time.
I just hope we can hold out annihilation till May to see this season out, after 25 years we deserve another run on MotD.

Can someone cleverer than me clear this up for me
The guy is an asylum seeker put up in a hotel until he is processed so why is he working
a lot of people who can't work use apps like deliveroo and uber to get income. sometimes they just outright sign up and the companies fail to check properly. More often than not they pay a middle man to use their ID.

Mad that this guy still hasn’t been caught despite being videoed getting on a train to London! Surveillance state needs beefing up.

Starmer’s probably got him in a limo to one of these new deluxe asylum seeker hotels. All you can eat buffet, massage, spa, sea views and a dedicated TV language learning service called ‘The English Channel’.

I doubt there is any real willingness to catch him, they just think ahh he’ll turn up sometime. Probably after he’s tried to snog a few people kids. Nice one labour.

Update: Still not caught and the police have asked the guy to hand himself in. This is an elite tier manhunt, people.
Now seems that he told them it was wrong and asked to be let back in only to be directed to the train station.

Also seems to be more common than you’d expect.
According to government statistics published in July, 262 prisoners were released in error in the 12 months to March 2025 - a 128% increase from 115 the previous year.

yeah its all app run. you just sign up, give you id and off you go.

problem is once you're signed up the companies don't give much of a shit about checking if the right person is using the app.

the ID verification on the app used to only happen once every 14 days. I believe the government has applied pressure and got it brought down but it's still only needed every couple of days. Given that it's only a process equivalent to unlocking your phone they want it dropped down to every 3-4 orders.

doesn't need any additional app or ID, the system is already in place, the problem is with the frequency of checks.

how many people who use those apps to order check the identity of the person delivering matches the person shown on the app. of the small number of people who do how many take any action when its not the same person and report it to the company?
