Why all the fuss about Keogh & Cranie? For the best part of a year, they were the defensive partnership in a side that got relegated.

Stu, Standup, thinking with our hearts yes. But if they're going to double their income, you couldn't blame them for moving. You're right, if Kevin & the Edge come off everything is sorted! We'll see soon enough. To be honest Keogh is better than the clubs that seem to be interested in him. If he stayed and helped us back up, best for everyone. But very unlikely.

Keogh for me was always better at right back.and as somebody has said .clear out old dead wood thst got us relegated and try something new.i personally think our squad looks better now than 12 months ago

If anyone did last season then he did. But if he is being offered a poor contract and can do much better elsewhere whilst SISU want to sell him then I can't blame him if he leaves.

When I read these comments with regards 'he wants to play at x level', whilst I can be understanding of the words, every bit of decency in me wonders where the loyalty lies? It reminds me of that terrible day at Villa when Bellamy simply walked off the field - without even looking at the fans, let alone any semblance of acknowledgement - and ran towards the next pay-day.
Whilst all of this may be excused by many of footballers having aspirations, short careers, ambition; well I think it's about time they began to show some decency and integrity.
The right thing for me, with regards Keogh, would be if he's agreed to stay at the club on the understanding that if we went back up, it would automatically trigger a contract extention of say, two years. If we fail, he can walk away

If this is his exit then so be it... we all really knew deep down this was most likely going to happen - I don't believe for 1 minute this is coming from him - we are sacrificing him to bank-roll the club - let's all wish him well and remind him he's more than welcome to come back when we are able to afford it

By not signing the contract that's been offered; in effect that's what he's doing. I could list a good number of players who have spoken about staying, only to run their contract down and move on - for starters Westwood, King, Cranie, Clingan. I can't think of one who's run ther contract down, then decided to stay and sign another. As such, Keogh's actions are tantamount to it, if not physically declining to stay

So you are guessing that he has been offered a contract for more money than anyone else? I would prefer the truth to come out before I decide what a player has and hasn't done. Lots of people already knew he was going to Brizzle or Cardiff as his new wife comes from Brizzle. Now we know there is a good chance that is wrong.

I'm not 'dissing' him; I am merely presenting the facts that virtually every player who enters the last year of his contract withour committing to a new one then proceeds to run his contract down with a view to moving on.
I am then adding that I - personally - would like to see a bit more loyalty and fortitude from those players who played role in getting us down here. I think people make too many excuses for footballers behaving in a selfish maner when it suits them to do so

I can only refer you to Sky Sports and their reporting, but in late May they ran with:
Coventry remain in contract discussions with defensive duo Richard Keogh and Martin Cranie, development director Steve Waggott has confirmed.
Keogh still has a year remaining on his current deal but the club are desperately keen to keep hold of their prized asset, as they are defensive partner Cranie, who is out of contract this summer.
Coventry have so far rejected formal offers for Keogh from Bristol City and Cardiff, while a couple of other Championship clubs have enquired about his availability.
Development director Steve Waggott told the club's official website: "It's my job to make it abundantly clear to them just how much we want to keep them here at Coventry City to help with our push next season.
"Both have said the reception and support they have had from the fans has been great and they very much appreciate that. That and so many other factors will come into their thinking on whether they decide to sign new contracts.
"The good thing is that we are talking and we will continue to do all we can to keep them here. They are both talented players and there will be interest in them but we are not thinking about that at the moment because our priority is to get them to stay at Coventry City

The tone of this thread suggests people think Keogh SHOULD sign a new contract. I don't understand why though...We've had 2 great years out of him where he's hardly missed a minute of football and has never ever left anything out on the pitch. Player of the season 2 years in a row speaks for itself.
He was the stand-out player in a team that got relegated so why shouldn't he look to keep playing at a higher level. We know a professional footballers career is short, and its not like he's ever going to earn money like they do in the Prem - so if i was him (and had no affiliation with the club) i'd be looking to move on as well. I'd want to play at as high a standard as possible while i was still young enough to do so.
I think Keogh comes across as honest a professional footballer as there is, so whatever he chooses to do, i'd wish him well - and if i was advising him, i'd tell him to move on.

Wouldn't disagree with much of that. I too would wish him well and thank him for all he's done.
Often, these moves can be very short-sighted though. I'm sure Clingan was 'advised' that the right thing to do way to leave Norwich to join us to... what were your words... 'keep playing at a higher level'?!?
And what's the result? A player with no affinity for fan or club; and who's simply spend a transitory moment at whichever club though would serve his career best at any given moment.
The Norwich view, and Coventry view of Clingan is that of a player of commerical convenience. If he'd have stayed at Norwich and fought to try and play his part in returning his club to it's former glory; he'd be a hero. I wonder where 'sound advise' sits in that context?
The only telling factors for me are that he was'nt offered new terms last summer along with Bell and Baker, unless someone knows otherwise.If he was and did'nt sign then could he be faulted for watching the exodus of eleven players through close season and during it.Wood and Macca are in final year of contract but are not considered contract rebels ,but then they don't have four potential suitors .This is a commercial decision for both parties ,he's been a model professional during his time with us and would continue to be if he stayed.
