I just don't fancy us in any kind of battle. On footballing terms, yep, but in a one off, real, physical battle and all blood and thunder tie, then most certainly not.

You think Crawley can intimidate Reda & JOB...a few of the others maybe...but I think we will have some guts about us come Sunday...we only play really crap at home.

I agree this is a knockout fight ...but it's too close to call...and we get the draw ...Keep the faith Otis ...you can get the party poppers ..wigs and hats out at full time.

Shame we can't use them at the start of the game as you suggested a few weeks back...I too really thought the equalizer against Oldham was us safe..but alas..we are where we are.

Calm down Otis, our tactical masterpiece was in planting agent Cody McDonald at Gillingham in readiness for Notts County , just in case this event occurred. You don't think SISU got where they did without forward planning, did you?

I hope you are right. But there has been plenty of bravado like 4-1 predictions against CREWE and Orient. Bristol was a good performance a very good performance....but it was against a very good team who only needed a draw to be champions and they got exactly what they needed.

I do think we have a reasonable chance of staying up. Crewe may well lose or Notts County may well not win, so we may survive. Just don't think it will be through our own endeavours though.

Sorry, but I just don't fancy the likes of Nouble or Barton or Martin or Fleck, or Burge in a roll your sleeves up battle of toil and sweat and 90 minutes of spirit and fight.

Burge doesn't handle pressure well, we give daft goals away and our attack is rather powder puff and goal shy.

If it is Cody who keeps up, I think a #CodyMcDonaldDay is needed. Either that or we all vote for him as our player of the season!

If we go down, everyone can blame me and I will take full responsibility for relegation.

That's good because Sisu won't according to them everything is somebody else's fault.

I'm not convinced Crawley can beat us but I'm also not confident we will win. It could be a draw, or maybe not. Gillingham may save us by beating Notts County but it's possible they wont. So I'd have to say I will just wait and see what happens and hope for the best. It's just a massive shame that we could not have ensured safety before the last game when we have had so many opportunities to do so. I console myself with the knowledge that if we do get relegated, we well and truly deserve it. You cannot put it down to bad luck or misfortune. It will have been incompetence, misjudgement and lack of effort.

Gillingham don't need to beat Notts County though, they only need to draw.

Notts County have to win or draw. A win to catch us, a draw and we'd remain above them. A draw for them will ensure they are above Crawley if we win, as they are both on 50 pts at the moment.

For us a draw will see us safe, unless Colchester win both games left and Crewe win and Notts County win by 4 goals.

Actually, I know this is an very unlikely scenario, but let's just say we draw, but Colchester win their last 2 games, Crewe win and Notts County win by 4 goals, we'd be down.

Table would look like this;

Crewe 55 pts
Notts County 53 pts
---------------------
CITY 53 pts
Crawley 51 pts
Orient either 48 or 49 or 51 pts
Yeovil 40 pts

Notts County would have scored more goals and we would be down.

More likelihood of being struck by lightening though .....isn't there?

after saturday its easy to be all doom and gloom but important to remember we have been quite good under mowbray and 5 away games in a row with a clean sheet isnt it?

there is a good chance we will just beat crawley anyway even if it isnt the coventry way

I don't care if we punch the ball into the net as long as the ref doesn't see it and awards the goal.

I think if I were us I would be going out there to play as close to bending the rules as possible. Whatever it takes. niggle, harrass, intimidate, time waste, kick lumps, whatever.

The history books aren't going to say we won the game well, they will just say we won.

Gillingham always score more in second half ...so if County are level at the break I will see hope...if Gillingham go ahead I shall be betting County to win.....they will never win with my money aboard....This time next week we will be at peace .....or in great despair....it's like sitting on death row awaiting the final verdict..

Its battle of the C's.....Crawley, Colchester, Cov, Crewe, County ...with hopefully some help from Cody and don't forget the biggest C word of all......C SU .

Whatever the jurys decision it will be final...there will be no appeal.

Good luck City...

The biggest C word of all will be used by many City fans if we go down, believe me! And it's none of the ones you have mentioned.

Good question.

I don't believe we have. I certainly can't recall a game where that has happened.

Notts county have saved us before though!! final day at Villa in the 90s - when Notts county beat Luton on the final day
Notts county already relegated beat Luton to send them down instead of us - losing 2-0 at the villa with a 1st minute goal from cyrille regis

http://www.11v11.com/matches/coventry-city-v-norwich-city-12-may-1984-87159/

there was also this game where we send Birmingham down by virtue of beating Norwich thanks to a goal from on loan striker Mick Ferguson.

On loan from Birmingham

I thought our 3-1 Victory over Wolves near the end of 1975/76 season sent them down? I remember whenever we scored chants of 'The wolves are going down' rang out and when they scored, the yam yams replied that they were staying up. That result may not have been the final nail in their coffin but it certainly didn't help. I'm certain we came within a whisker of sending villa down on last day 1988/89. As it stood they needed to avoid defeat to stay up. At 1-1, close to the end, I remember Gary Bannister clean through on goal at the Holte end but instead of shooting he elected to pass to a villa defender.
