Thinking about it, one band does sum us up perfectly.

The Fall!

And if we're talking about the novel that inspired that great band's name, I can only hope that Richardson has as much of a wretched, guilty conscience as does the pratagonist in it!

Yeah, he did. I think it was around the time that Curtis topped himself too. I don't know, these pop stars.

A fantastic punk record that, Babylon's Burning. Hung himself didn't he, Malcom Owen?

Yeah, The Ruts were great. There were some great bands around that time: The Lurkers, TV21, Skids. All better than the Clash, I reckon.

All those too. It was great being a 14/15 year old at that time. I'm going to play One Chord Wonders tonight followed by Wednesday Week and Whip It!

The Adverts? 999? The Boys? The Undertones? XTC? Devo?

BBC 4 had a documentary about TV Smith and the Adverts a few weeks ago.

I used to fancy Gaye Advert back then.

XTC are my favourite ever band. I had them in my head all day at work after Torchie nominated them earlier for "What Till Your Boat Goes Down" :)

I should probably nominate their side-project "Dukes of Stratosphere", track "You're My Drug".
