I'd never want to get back to the Premiership... (3 Viewers)

As amazing as the Emerites is, its completely disconnected with the locals. All around it was poverty and drugs. There's no way the locals could afford their ticketing let alone the beer and pies. Football has been stolen and now steals from the working class.

I had to do some deliveries down in London and as I didn't know it, it was a sat nav job. So there I was tootling along and suddenly I'm like "holy crap there's the Emirates". I wasn't expecting it at all. :D

Edit

I also remember going to Carrow road about 5 years ago and the tickets then were around £25 IIRC

Just got my beloved Packers on in the NFL just now ;) American sports are just too saturated with commercialism for the UK market-could you imagine many people here being happy with adverts every 10 seconds?

I mean like the transfer system and draft picks.

Trading players would be better. Ultimately, aren't players like slaves, their ownership being brought, owner after owner (This isn't a feel sorry for footballers or anything, I'm saying), we use the job analogy when understanding why players leave for money, but does a solicitor firm 'buy' you for a fee?

Completely agree Willie. I too noticed how odd the Emirates looked in such a run-down neighbourhood. I used to live near Highbury in the '70's and it was still more or less just the local club then.

Murdoch and Sky have slimed themselves between football and the fans and the clubs have colluded with them to rip off supporters. Without the fans the game would be nothing - they're the free 'extras' that create the atmosphere in the show the Premiership (it sticks in my gullet to use that word) flogs all round the world every week. Football, before it was stolen by shits in suits, was the creation of England's now-despised working class, nobody else, and they were often sneered at by their 'betters' at the time. And now, like much of what's left of our industry, these fantastic old clubs have been largely handed over to a bunch of criminal third world thugs, who we're all supposed to admire and wish to emulate simply because they've made themselves obscenely rich by plundering their countries' natural resources. Rant over - but these people make me puke.

The problem with football is it preys on the loyalty of its supporters. The free market dictates the prices of everything, except sports tickets.

Unless people stop going then prices will remain high.

I hate it when top clubs use the excuse of "if we want the best players in England then we have to pay for it". Frankly if it means having to pay £58 to watch Norwich away then I dont want the best players here.

The trouble is even at a minimum 50 quid a ticket and approaching a £100 at some London grounds they are sold out and although £50+ per game is steep it's about the cost of a West End show such Les Mis, Lion King or Phantom. I have just paid £55 for Lion King tickets on in Brum in August, £50+ has become the going rate for top events I was told tickets for the World darts were £45, trouble with footie fixtures come round every week, sometimes twice a week.
How much do you think present owners SISU would charge per match ? With an away end that holds 6000+ at 40/50 quid a ticket and full most games thats a minimum quarter of a million revenue per match, cash, for away tickets only plus the home tickets

Would price me out of it for sure.

As much as I love the City I simply cannot see me paying over £40 a ticket.

Sadly I think it would turn me into an armchair fan.

Yeah, but when you go to see the Lion King or Les Mis or Phantom you know you are going to be entertained and you know it will be high quality.

How many quality games have we had this season here at the Ricoh? Okay, so it's £20+, but very few of those games have been worth the money.

£50 to go and watch a depressing struggle and then come home frustrated and saddened?

Can get that on the street corners of Hillfields and that's only £18 (apparently).

The other difference that you wouldn't go and pay to watch the lion king 19+ times in 9 months, so for 99.9% of people it's a 1 off special occasion/threat.

Yer, very good point.

It's like going to see a show or concert every two weeks and people simply don't do this and most would probably say they can't afford to either.

Problem is that football fans are stupid and easily exploited

The elite in the public schools developed the game of football, it was because of William Webb Ellis that Rugby football and Association Football split from the mob game of football (played by the peasants in the feudal era) and became the 2 great sports as we know them. The working-class took on football so it became a workers' game.

If we got a ST it'd probably work out just under £40 per game, I'd pay that!

Funny really then that so many wish to worship the Windsors on a similar basis.

Chatting to a Spurs mate of mine before the game yesterday, he told me that his season ticket cost over £900 this season and fully expects ut to go up to over £1k next year, also with a waiting list of 25k if he stopped it he'd have no chance of getting another one again. Personally I couldn't justify the expense and would probably have to become an occasional/armchair fan.

Many many Premiership clubs charge close to or over a £1,000 for an ST.

Just can't see me paying that.

Football is f@cked, we all know it. Just check out the crowds in general yesterday for the FA Cup matches.......paltry. Its all about climbing to the Premiership but despite some of the bravado on this thread most of our support in a relatively poor City like Coventry can't afford £50 plus away tickets on top of everything else. Shameful !!

To be fair it isn't true that many Premiership clubs charge close to or over £1,000 as you suggest, Spurs and Arsenal have the most expensive season tickets by far followed by Chelsea, Arsenal charge up to £1,955 for a season ticket but they get 7 Cup games included, Spurs charge up to £1,845 for a season ticket but only include 2 Cup games.

Both Spurs and Arsenal charge over £1,000 as an average for their season tickets that is down to supply and demand between them they have about 80,000 fans on their season ticket waiting lists, most Premiership clubs season tickets will average out at around £500/£600 each.

I don't think home games would be the problem. It's away games. There are a fair few that travel to every away game (or a majority at least) but I doubt they would be able to make them if we were in the premier league.

Sky to blame for this too much money paid to the so called stars has to come from gate money sky pay too much to the top clubs not enough to the smaller clubs so priced rise to pay them

Thats ridiculous. Probably why Premier League games have such terrible atmospheres, only the prawn sandwich brigade can afford them.

Still want to get there though.

I was looking through the Spurs programme today and found proof of a tweet a I had seen the other day... 'Norwich charge £50 for an away ticket'.

Norwich to me is a Championship stadium, I'd never pay £50 to visit Carrow Road.

Sadly, for 90% of us on this forum, watching the Sky Blues in the Premier League would be just too much.

Would anyone really pay £58 to visit WHL?

I would love Cov to be back in the Prem 1 million per cent, all the Stoke fans must be gutted at being back as well as Swansea. What a stupid post centered around your own circumstances

£500-600 is still a lot of money for 19 games - £26.30 - £31.60 per match.
I wonder what the reaction would be if we made the prem and the club started charging 6 times the average price for a season ticket

but yea, I don't think I would even pay that tbh. Ridiculous if it is a family of like 2 adults and 2 children you would be looking at 1.5k. The cheapest ST at the Ricoh now is £270, I would say a fair price would be £300-350 for the cheapest area of the ground in the premier league, looking at the survey price of football that would seem about right

From the 20 clubs, 10 have a cheapest season ticket under £400
