Was thinking earlier this week. The club don't seem to do anything to reach out to lapsed fans.
I haven't been all season (and most of last season) and had a season ticket last year (which I used twice) Would be a good idea to target them with targetted marketing offers. Must be a fair few to go after.
Couldn’t agree more. The fact that we can’t get 20,000 home fans to attend on a regular basis in the top half of the Championship us awful. The apathy around the city of Coventry towards the football club is shocking - but just watch if we still have a chance to get in the playoffs in mid April, every man and his dog will be claiming life long allegiance in the hope of getting tickets for the play offs (although to be fair I thought the same thing for the home Notts County playoff game, when there was less than 20k there in total).Our fanbase is fucking shocking, simple as that.
Play off chasing team, we should be selling tickets like hot cakes at 25 quid a pop.
I appreciate there are people for whom money is tight, but equally they'll be plenty sat in some boozer with an illegal stream on tanning pints and chisel.
Of course they're quite entitled to do that, but let's not pretend our support is anything other than below average at best.

I have followed this club for the best part of 50 years and I traveled away regularly for 20 odd years when I was younger. Our current away support has been incredible, probably for the last 10 years, but in the late 70s/ early 1980s there were occasions when there were less than a hundred of us.
To me Coventry is not a football city like other one club cities such as Newcastle, Sunderland or Leeds. Even Derby get bigger gates than us. I often wonder what % of our attendance actually live in the city currently.

Those teams were better supported than us long before Northampton happened.
And they've had a lot of shit to deal with, not as much as us, granted, but they've had their fair share.

Serious question, what average crowd would you expect a mid table Championship team to have?
Coventry is very much a football city and has amongst the most dedicated and passionate supporters in this league. We witness that week in week out. Simply wouldn't swap our support for that of any other club tbh.
The numbers frustrate at times, but then we've sold a record number of STs this season, so it's hardly that we're not responding.
Problem is, people grossly overstate the size of the city and the extent of our pull. Comparisons with Leeds are mad, it is huge, bigger than Liverpool and Manchester. So too Newcastle, it's metro area is enormous in comparison. Coventry has an urban area population similar to Newport, Reading, Birkenhead and Preston. There is a wider catchment area of course (same applies to those other places too), but our pull there is minimal, there are just so many clubs in the area.
We have top 10 gates in the championship. Shouldn't be crying about that.
Where are the 40k Millwall fans who were at Wembley a few years ago? How could Oxford take 28K to Wembley and get 5000 the next week? You're conflating 2 things here, the passion of those that attend, which is up there with the best, and actual attendances, which are average at best.

Truthfully, because I spent most weekends at the game post Covid and ended up hammered getting in at all hours. Spent the last year training so it was getting in the way of my goals in a nutshell! That and I work away a fair bit...

I also get your point that it’s not the same people that go every week - I was one of them for a few years when my kids were little.
I suppose that most of my annoyance stems from the fact that I now live over 90 miles from the CBS and attend all home games whilst people who actually live in the city seem incapable of dragging themselves up there on a regular basis.
