Signed Trevor Carson after he won league 2 keeper of year! Murphy on his way out maybe? I'd have him back in a heartbeat

Huddersfield Town fan here - yep, it was news to me that we'd signed Carson. I've never heard of him tbh!

Murphy isn't part of CP's plans, so wouldn't be surprised to see him go back to Cov.

Oscar Gobern. Thoughts? Good player for League 1 standards?

A few months ago, you'd have found HTFC fans queueing up to drive him to Cov themselves. 4 years of mostly dross, interspersed with being injured. Then last season he went on loan to Chesterfield & was sent back early. You'd struggle to find anybody who hadn't written him off a long time ago.

Then, unexpectedly forced his way back into the side towards the end of last season & did remarkably well, to the point where opinion is fairly split as to whether people wanted him to stay or not.

On his day, a pretty good player. Good awareness & passing of the ball, plus telescopic Go-Go-Gadget legs useful for pulling a tackle out of nowhere. Can make a nuisance of himself in attacking situations too. Or, he'll amble around like a new born foal. Or, he'll be injured.

In short, good enough that he could be genuine competition for places in the Championship, let alone Lg1. If you can keep him fit & get him playing as he can, you've got a very good signing.

I'd drive to Huddersfield and pick Murphy up if it got the deal done.

Don't believe he ever actually wanted to leave. Wouldn't be surprised if he's another Pressley just clashed with hence him moving on.

Think it was more that he was one of our top earners (along with Baker etc) and we needed him off the wage bill.

He wanted to go..... for the money.... like they all do.

Development director Steve Waggott said the club would now step up its search for a second senior goalkeeper to compete with Lee Burge for the number one spot.

He said: “We worked hard to keep Joe but the pull of Championship football and the improved deal that brings made it difficult.

It would certainly be another (we have actually had more than one!!) positive step if we re-signed one of our best performers from the previous few seasons.

It was a poor and backwards decision allowing him to leave, recruiting him again would right that wrong, resolve the keeper issue and indicate eyes are on promotion.

e. He was willing to sign for us on a reduced contract, a contract that never materialised. So you can't blame him for signing for a championship side when they offered him one.

Do we know for a fact that we tried to negotiate to keep him? He may well have been happy to sign on a reduced contact but that reduced terms could have still been more than we could afford/willing to pay. The mail suggested he was on £8k pw (not that we believe it), he may have been willing to say for £6k pw, but we could only afford £3k pw.

IIRC he had spoken to the club about what he wanted and that it was on vastly reduced terms. We told him that an offer would be made but he waited in vain. When he got another offer he took it. Maybe they thought we didn't need a good GK

The whole Murphy was willing to sign a contract on reduced terms is a misdirection.

Yes I'm he would have been happy to sign a new contract on reduced terms only IF he had no other better offers on the table by June time, he'd have been an idiot to sign a contract on reduced terms with only a few months before it ran out and thats exactly what his agent would have been telling him at the time.

Not true. He even had an interview saying that he was waiting for an offer to come in. They had talks and seemed to have come to an agreement. The offer never came in. How often do players have an interview with the local rag to say so? To me and most others at the time it was to show them for what they are. If they wanted to keep him and decided that they wanted to offer even less they could have made the offer. But they didn't. Was he supposed to turn down all offers in hope of finally getting one from us?

I don't recall ever hearing there was an agreement.

Around March time he said he was happy, just wanted to play football, was willing to take a cut. The usual soundbites from a player nearing the end of his contract. Then he signs up to be number 2 keeper for Huddersfield despite the club saying repeatedly they tried to keep him, so was he lying about wanting to just play football then?

You believe what you want anyway and I'll just continue engaging my brain and using common sense.

So when did we say that we repeatedly try to keep him? We never offered him a contract so what did we repeatedly do to keep him?

And you know that he went there to be No.2?

So when are you going to engage your brain?

“Joe was one of the Championship players in our squad who had a reasonably good deal at the club, so I think he and his agent are looking at other options and seeing if they are more attractive than staying another year or so with us.”

“We worked hard to keep Joe but the pull of Championship football and the improved deal that brings made it difficult.

“With regards to Joe we have made it clear, not just today but in the past few weeks, that we would very much like him to stay with us,” he added.

“His contract with us, however, runs up to the end of June so we will continue to do all we can.

Extracts from various articles.

Surely its obvious from the appearances he made the past season that the intention was always for him to be the number 2 keeper.

Joe Murphy signed for Huddersfield because the contract offer was more attractive than staying with us, no other reason.

It's pointless me trying to make you see reason as you will believe what you want to.

Explain one thing then. How was he supposed to stay at our club when he wasn't offered a new contract? And also he went to the local rag to say so after all of those comments that you stated were released. And no more comments came from the club about wanting to keep him after he let everyone know he wanted to stay and was waiting for an offer.

Pointless? If you put everything in the right order all you have to do is use common sense like you say you do.

Wrong, the quotes I posted came out on the 12th June, 17th June, 5th May.

Joe Murphy said he had received no offers as of the 4th May

http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sp.../joe-murphy-waiting-discover-coventry-7071343

Which is understandable to be fair as the club had to ensure league safety before they began discussions, otherwise they could have ended up in league 2 paying wages they couldn't afford.

Your so blinded by your belief you can't even get the facts right.

Facts? Who needs them.

Really it's funny how players can fool some fans with the throwaway lines.

Players like Murphy will always get a contract at 32 so there is no way he'd sign reduced terms - he'd sit and wait.

The fact he knew he'd be second choice shows playing wasn't a priority - I wonder what was.

I am still waiting for the same answer. When did we offer him a contract? In between nights so will look into it in a couple of days if you like. But you are still trying to say he turned us down when he had nothing to turn down.

Just had a quick look at the links you posted.

So on the 4th of May he said he hadn't received an offer.

5th May Pressley says there won't be a bomb squad.

12th June he is in talks with Huddersfield.

So your proof is that it took him over a month from saying he hadn't had an offer from our club to being close to joining Huddersfield? Explain to me how your proof works out and I will admit you are right and I am wrong. Tell me what offer he got from our club before starting to look elsewhere. And what a surprise that Grendel agrees with facts that are not there.

How about listing the dates on where our club said that it was trying to sign him. Were they before he went to the local rag like I said?

Was that the interview where he said it's all about playing football and he needs to be at a club where he's still playing football?

So you are now ignoring the facts that we have been debating and are now saying that he went there to be No.2 and not aim to be No.1? He waited another month without an offer. Would you wait about forever if you were on a temporary contract that was about to run out without getting an offer of more work if you got an offer elsewhere? I suppose you would as it would help you out here
