How many wins will Ipswich get? (7 Viewers)

Their backlog of games makes the table difficult to read.

How many of their 6 games in 20 odd days do you think they get.

I think they get 4, which means we need 1 win for the title.

Yeah, would agree with this.

Just can't see them winning them all at all and am sure they will drop points along the way.

Portsmouth - W
Middlesbrough - W
Charlton - W
West Brom - W
Southampton - L
QPR - W

15 points - (90 points)
A bit optimistic I think. They are playing two games a week now and so many of their matches are away.

I can definitely seem them losing more than just one game

Asked Chat GPT if there had been any examples in history in the EFL of such a busy schedule and how they fared. Interesting reading:
Playing 6 games in 21 days is a brutal "Saturday-Tuesday" grind that is surprisingly common in the EFL due to winter postponements or cup runs. For a team like Ipswich Town—now sitting in 2nd after their April 11th win over Norwich—this schedule is the ultimate test of squad depth.

Historically, teams that successfully navigate this kind of fixture congestion usually have a specific "profile": they rotate their front four heavily and manage to grind out 1-0 wins rather than high-scoring affairs.

Historical Examples of the "Promotion Slog"

1. Sheffield Wednesday (League One, 2022/23)

  • The Situation: Due to a massive unbeaten run followed by some postponements, Wednesday had a heavily congested April.
  • The Schedule: They played 7 games in 25 days during the final stretch.
  • How they fared: They actually struggled initially, dropping points in games they "should" have won, which cost them automatic promotion. However, they maintained enough fitness to win the most dramatic play-off campaign in history.
  • Lesson: Psychological fatigue can be as dangerous as physical fatigue.

2. Bolton Wanderers (League Two, 2020/21)

  • The Situation: Bolton were on a legendary charge from the bottom half of the table to the automatic spots.
  • The Schedule: In February/March, they played 9 games in 28 days.
  • How they fared: Remarkably, they won 8 and drew 1. Ian Evatt’s side relied on a very settled defense and clinical finishing.
  • Lesson: Momentum can often override the physical toll of 3-game weeks.

3. Fulham (Championship, 2017/18)

  • The Situation: Chasing Cardiff for the second automatic spot.
  • The Schedule: They played a similar Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday rotation in April.
  • How they fared: They went on a 23-game unbeaten run, but the fatigue finally hit on the final day of the season. They lost their 46th game to Birmingham City, missing out on automatic promotion by 2 points.
  • Lesson: The "crash" often happens in the final 90 minutes of the season when the adrenaline finally runs dry.

Don’t care about Ipswich. We’ll win a couple more and make them irrelevant
Very blasé.
Couple of the players being interviewed after the game got shown out score.
They will be believing they can win the title.
They have two games in hand.
Away at Portsmouth - think they'll win that.
Vs Southampton - a couple of days after they play Man City. Southampton will be shattered and could comfortably be in the playoffs. Fancy Ipswich. That wipes out 6 of our 10 pints over them.

We have zero easy games left.

Was hoping Wrexham at home could be a don't care less fixture. It is likely on we'll now have to win if we want the title.

Blackburn is no where near as a "gimme" as people are expecting.....

Ipswich will be rubbing their hands together after their away win at Norwich and us failing to beat the worst team in the division.

Not promotion slog - but in our first season back in the championship Rotherham had covid related set backs and ended up playing 4 games Saturday to Saturday one week

Think they will win all of them games they have left, I ain’t arsed either way if we finish 1st or 2nd, the main thing is getting that P next to our name. Promotion comes before a trophy, would be nice but wouldn’t be the end of the world

I think there will be a reaction v Blackburn, Lampard will be annoyed today.

Wouldn’t be surprised by WWDL for us which would put us on 92, Ipswich won’t win every game- they still have to play the best team in the league.

Although promotion is the ultimate goal, it will be massively disappointing if we don’t win the title now.
