I'm off to Florence a fortnight today.

Had been hoping to catch Fiorentina vs Pisa whilst there , but alas it seems to have been moved to a Monday evening (when i'll be flying home). Presumably due to a repeat of the trouble which marred the match earlier in the season.

Having scouted round the fixtures.... Livorno are at home.... but i'm spying Padova vs Bari.... and despite the distance, its shaping up as the best option.... 1hr40 on the train, and two "big" names.

Might just fuck it off and go to Pisa though

Going away with the family for a long weekend later. We've got a nice little cottage in a small town in the Yorkshire Dales, so can go on a couple of hikes and have a laugh with the kids.

Not exciting in itself, but it does mean I can enjoy people's reaction when I answer the question "What are you doing for Valentines Day?" with several variations of "Visiting Hawes with my family" (admittedly works much better said out loud)

Florence is one of my favourite cities on the planet, utterly beautiful with incredible food and culture

Me and the Missus like a little weekend away when we can get a dog sitter and done a few ‘weird’ ones like Huntingdon (shit), Wakefield (great laugh), Doncaster (freezing but good fun) and in a couple of weeks we’re off to Reading!

Only ever been once for the football (which was a great day out on a boiling hot Saturday) but looks like there’s quite a few bars and restaurants and one of those ‘March of the Mods’ events on the Saturday so plenty of live music.

Anyone ever been and recommend any bars/restaurants, things to do etc

Went to Florence a couple of weeks ago. As expected it was stunning.

Out to the coast to Livorno on the saturday for a look round, and went to the football.

On the sunday i'd planned to go to Siena, but the weather was gorgeous so i took a couple of trains to La Spezia.... then a bus to a little village on the sea called Portovenere. Absolutely stunning, and sat in the sun it could well have been summer.

Didn't spend too much time in Florence itself, aside from walking round the usual sights, but really is a beautiful place. Quick visit to Pisa to see the tower.

Flights just been cancelled, apparently it takes 4-6 weeks to process the refund!!

Yeah it’s hit them bad.

The Government has ordered a four day week due to the lack of oil and gas.

The hit on tourism will just exacerbate the problems as well.

Dusseldorf the weekend before Christmas for NHL Global Series. Was expecting the worst on prices given the time of year but pleasantly surprised.

Also off to Zurich in may for the IIHF World Champsionhips. Hopefully don't have to worry about the play off final being in the middle of the tournament.

Have you been to Dusseldorf before? I quite liked it. The old town is nice and there are two streets lined with bars and restaurants and a brewery selling the Alt bier. Also a great place that sells pork knuckle on a spit, it's called Hamham, absolutely superb

I think we went somewhere in that vague general area on a school trip but it was so long ago I'm not entirely sure!

Fly out early Friday and come back Monday afternoon so plenty of time besides the 2 games, Friday and Sunday night.

In Budapest at the moment, amazing that I booked the weekend during an international break my wife said 😃 Off the the Szechenyi Thermal Baths this morning.

Bit late to respond to this... but went to Budapest last year for our 10 year anniversary. One of my favourite ever city breaks. Absolutely loved the place.

As for this year, i turned 40 last week, and the wife will complete her masters, so it's a big year for us.

Did a day in Dublin last week to celebrate my birthday, great day in some great pubs. As soon as we mentioned we were from Coventry, all anyone wanted to talk about was the City and Lampard.... apart from the one Boro fan we met, who wanted to talk about anything else 🤣

In May, the wife has booked us a 3 night trip (kid-free) to Menorca. Punta Prima. Just a few days in the sun, to chill out before her final placement.

September, me and my mates are off to Seville.

October/November - 2 weeks in Ayia Napa with the wife and kids. The Wife used to go every year as a kid, and has always wanted to go back. We tried to go for her 30th, but Covid hit, so hopefully we get to go this year

I assume you are a couple of years older than your missus, as on first read that made me think Covid was ten years ago!

Haha yeah, there's 4 year gap between us.

Heard great things about Seville. Really looking forward to it. Only slight disppointment is that ut means I'm having to give the cricket tour a miss this year

Dortmund this weekend for Son's stag weekend - booked months ago - Dortmund game and trips to Dusseldorf & Koln, will be great but bittersweet with missing the party back at home when results go our way

I'm possibly going to Seville in November.... combining with a couple of days in Madrid beforehand.

Trouble is, i also want to go to Genoa for a week and explore the coast round there (and see Sampdoria/Genoa play).

I've only got enough leave to do one of them this year.

After a recommendation for 2 weeks in the south of Spain in June. Somewhere relaxing but still have plenty of bars/restaurants/things to do. Fairly close to attractions/history/major cities (within one hour on the trains).
El Palo is a lively Spanish neighborhood of Malaga 6k east 2 euros bus to Malaga for the high speed train network.
