Hibs keen to keep 'different class' McPake

After turning in a dominant defensive display as Hibernian secured their SPL status by hammering Dunfermline on Monday night, James McPake's future was the talk of the post-match interviews.

Made captain after his loan move from Coventry City back to the SPL, the central defender has become a cult figure at Easter Road and now has a Scottish FA Cup final derby against Hearts to look forward to.

'He was tremendous,' manager Pat Fenlon said afterwards.

'Since he's come in, he's been different class. He's what we need in the club; he's a great leader and we'd love to keep him but he's a Coventry player and we need to try and sort that out first.

'He's just an honest centre-half and he defends really well and he's the type you want. He doesn't want to concede goals no matter when it is and he showed that tonight; he got some great blocks in.'

£3.60 and a packet of Maltesers.

Or if we are to indulge in racial stereotyping £3.60 and a deep fried Mars Bar.

I'm not surprised that they want to keep him. I think that he would be very good for us in D1. If we let him go I hope we get a good price - and AT can use the money for a decent striker.

I'm not having a go but...Everyone seems to think that any money coming in from players who've been sold will be used to buy new "Strikers","Midfielders","Defenders","Keeper". Has everyone forgotten, who it is that own us?

Hopefully they have had a reality check. Saving 10k a week has cost them millions a year. They will want them millions back. To do this we need promotion.

We have lost more big earners and our food bill will have gone down now Fatwood has gone. The wages for just one of these players will pay for 3 players wages. Teams where we are now have to sell to survive. 100k is a lot of money to many teams. If we can get players for free then even better. 100k will go a long way though to get a player with 1 year left on his contract.

They will also see how much our attendances are affected by poor results. They will know that investing a small amount in the squad will pay dividends if we have a winning team. If it is all done sensibly we can go into profit. How many fans would come back if we have a successful season? They said before that break even was 22k. That was with a higher wage bill. If we are at or near the top I can see it being more than that. Fans have been waiting nearly 50 years to be able to watch a top 6 side.

Just goes to show, when a player is happy and settled they perform well.

From what I heard on the radio about the game, he was superb last night. Sounds like he's back to his best, and that would make him the best CB in the squad IMO-and yes I'm including Keogh in that. He'd be even better after a pre-season under his belt: match fitness makes such a difference.

He has some choice to make. Stay where he is. In Scotland where he wants to be, playing for a club that wants him, playing for fans where he don't get abuse and in the Prem against playing for us in Div3 where some of our "fans" abuse some of the players :thinking about:
