The Football League Trophy, just like the FA Trophy and FA Vase, exists specifically to give lower and non league teams a realistic shot at Wembley. It would give a very healthy injection of cash and a moment of positivity in this club's dire recent past-if I can go, I will.

I am with Otis, rupert, Brighton and others.
I haven't been to any of the JPT ties and have little interest in cup competitions usually until we get close to Wembley, like now. I have my tickets for both legs against Crewe and am into the idea of Wembley now.
Football is about winning things ... And you can only realistically win the cup at the level you are in. Like Rupert said this could be the springboard the club needs to moving onward and upward.
A club like ours should be challenging for promotion too but, realistically it is a long shot this season. Robins will have a great chance of promotion next season, especially with the momentum of a Wembley win and a near miss in the league. FWIW that is more likely than us making the play offs in my opinion.

Winning the JPT did Southampton no harm in 2010. Live the moment and enjoy. And the +£100k (gate receipts plus prize money) would be welcomed by the club hopefully to strenghen our push for auto promotion.

Yes because it's only open to those in League 1 & 2.

So while we were in the championship, it wouldn't have crossed our mind because we wouldn't have had a chance of winning it.

If your talking about the beginning of the season, we were more worried about getting relegated to league 2.

Now we're doing good, a trophie would garner more confidence, not only from the squad but from SISU (To invest to keep our momentum going), from the fans (incouraging more to spend their money to come to matches) and the city (encouraging them to look at more ways of helping to stabalise our club financially etc).

Plus just bringing a little success back to our beloved city will show some people that we're not as dead as some fans would have other believe!

There's so many reason why we should go for this cup.

To be honest at the start of the season i wasnt that fussed with the competition, but now we are two games from Wembley, why shouldnt we all get excited about it? Look at the character shown by us against Preston which could well have gone someway to helping us with the winner against Oldham.

Although the league is priority, its nice to have this on the back burner and thebpossibility

More important than the prestige of the JPT is that we might FINALLY have a moment where we can galvanize the fans and the city around a successful team. Even if the tournament isn't worth anything to other teams, those are the moments that give a team winning momentum, and energise the fans. There'll always be contrarians who say it's meaningless, but after 26 years, a small bit of actual success (i.e not just avoiding relegation) can do wonders for this club.

WTF is up with some people, is it just that they are desperate to look cool and disinterested. City are what they are now and we've had to beat 4 teams at or around our level to get this far. We now have the chance to fill the Ricoh for the 3rd time if you count the Chelsea and England Under 21 game, the chance in a dull economic climate to have a great day out in London, playing at the National Stadium with 45,000 like minded souls and the chance to give the younger supporters a real nice day in the sun and something to be proud of. Get a grip you miserable coonts !!

A bit narrow minded too think of this cup is a waste of time, for the club this could be very important not only now but it could provide the next or new generation of fan. If we get there and we see thousands of young kids wearing shirts, signing song and jumping around with excitement at the prospect of seeing the team lift a cup would be invaluable in our current situation.

We need stability off the field, growth in fan base and confidence on the pitch to bring us to a stronger position to challenge not only in this league but the ones above.... I want to win every game but the most important thing now is to keep Robins, keep gaining interest and build on what already has got us all back talking about the club..

Sorry you feel that way but I can remember what it was like in 1987 and the whole area came to life and it made me proud.
May only be a tin pot trophy but its a day out at the new Wembley and I have boy been since 87.
All I would say is give it a chance as that day, if we get there will remain with you for life.

Couldnt agree more, bet theres loads of kids who have been to these cup ties, probably alot with family who have stopped going in recent years..

Agree entirely with Otis's reply amongst the others who agree.

A trophy's a trophy and the cup run should be like any other!

At the start of the season i hoped we'd do we'll in this competition yet i couldn't see us going all the way! We have done, and im proud of it! JPT or not. It takes alot from the players to cram in so many fixtures and if we win it, they've earnt it!

Dont forget the heroics shown V Preston and the celebrations from the fans at the game prove that it means something to the City! Been a long while since ive celebrated goals as i did the two late goals in that game

They got through (at least) 2 rounds on pens, where it is a lottery.

Had it been the FA Cup, I think they would've got smashed by Arsenal and probably Wigan as well...

Bradford beat Villa over 2 legs, held a near full strength Arsenal team for 2 hours, and held Wigan just the same. For a bottom tier side to do that is outstanding and can't be done with luck alone.
