It's not a surprise that it's all coming to light now. His power has dwindled somewhat, but if any single person spoke up a few years ago they'd be absolutely buried. It's sympomatic of the incredible power of the old boy's club that runs Hollywood, and it shouldn't just be Weinstein held up but the others like him as well as all the people who actively assisted in procuring and intimidating vulnerable girls and boys for these vultures.

Interesting conversation earlier today on LBC about this. How much suffering, misery and pain could have been avoided if those first abused by Weinstein would have came out at the time and outed him for the monster he is? IMO, the women who have kept their silence for 20+ years also have an awful lot to answer for.

He'd have crushed anyone who came out years ago, he and his cronies were untouchable. It was the power that allowed him to force himself onto girls that also prevented them from being able to do anything about it. To suggest it was simply a case of telling people doesn't stand up when it transpires that most people knew anyway.

They were all victims and conditioned to be so not just by Weinstein but also the establishment that they worked in. They’ve got nothing to answer for or feel guilty about. If he couldn’t target women who he thought he could control to keep quiet he wouldn’t have done it. He thought he was untouchable and so did his victims. I’m just glad some found the courage to come out about it and others then also found the courage to follow. Hopefully all his victims will find that strength and he spends the rest of his natural life in prison and loses everything in the process.
It’s a very slippery slope to start blaming victims.

It's good however that this comes out while he's still alive. I'm by no means of the string 'em up school of thought, but there was something deeply... unsatisfying that Jimmy Saville went to his grave unpunished.

To think someone could just end your career in the blink of an eye and who held such power in the industry.
The fact that it has taken 20 plus years just shows you how powerful this man truly was.

A lot of the up-and-coming actresses he abused have long since become widely-known names - why are they only telling their stories now?

Up until very recently he had the power to ruin careers, which in turn could ruin lives. Again, very easy to make out that it's a simple case of telling someone but it's clearly not an easy thing to do.

What I can't get my head around is why he didn't just have 10 escorts round in his hot tub at a time, rather than trying to force people into things. Obviously not wired up right in the slightest.

It's not so easy to be believed when nobody has heard of you. Emma Thompson summed it up best for me when saying Weinstein is not a sex addict but a sexual predator. I believe there was also an investigation into this before and no action was taken against him, I think we've heard this scenario before.

I think you made a good point, I just disagreed slightly with the terminology at the end. Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick, but I think we're both on the same page with how abhorrent we find this behaviour.
