I've associated Harrison with terrible football and diminishing results, so whatever the reason for this I'm happy about it, and nothing can piss in my chips, or shit in my glass.
Steve Harrison
ASSISTANT manager Steve Harrison has been axed by Coventry City.
The 59-year-old first team coach is believed to have been a victim of the Sky Blues’s cost-cutting and is understood to have come to an agreement with the club over his rolling contract.
Harrison – who was a popular character with the players at Ryton – joined the club following a seven-year stint at Middlesbrough under former England boss Steve McClaren and then Gareth Southgate.
Known affectionately as Harry, the former full-back and experienced coach, who had a stint with the England national team under Graham Taylor, joined the club in May 2009 as Chris Coleman’s assistant following the departure of Steve Kean.
Harrison was kept on as part of Aidy Boothroyd’s backroom staff when Coleman was sacked and, again, stayed on alongside current boss Andy Thorn when he took charge towards the end of the 2010/11 season.
Earlier in the close season Academy coach and former club skipper Lee Carsley was promoted to Thorn’s backroom as the new development squad coach, looking after City’s young professionals in their transition from youth football to the first team, as well as helping out on the senior coaching side and on match days.
Staff at the club were sent letters earlier this month warning of job cuts as City look to make savings.
Feel a bit sorry for H and it will be interesting to see AT's take on this decision as he has always been his right hand man.
He's not only being left with inexperienced players, but he's also being left with inexperience coaching staff too!
Yes it seems coincidence that we've got no further forward whilst H was at the club, but neither did we under Kean as assistant, and he was made scapegoat ahead of Coleman.
They tear the club to pieces one week at a time, all the while making their demands for the real estate, its getting to the point now where I'd rather have AFC Coventry than SISU anywhere near our club because you just know one year down the line all this will begin again if they desire some other part of CV6. Fuck 'em the bastards !!
Although Thorn and Harrison have both been forced to manage with both hands tied behind their backs, I can't help feeling that the team have gone as far as they can with these 2 in charge. Carsley is young and hungry, has had a succesful season with our academy team, and will offer new ideas and enthusiasm. My money would be on him eventually becoming our next manager........but hopefully not before Thorn has lifted the league one championship trophy.
TBH the change might do some good. I reckon with his record Harrison will get another job fairly easily, hell he might as well take 6 months off, can't be short of a bob or two (unless he has a gambling problem or invested in Michael McIndoe's scheme).
I certainly hope not as every club needs a physio and as we're not very good at replacing outgoings, unless their board room level, we'd really be in the shit without one.
