If hes not at Forest Green it means hes gone, wont want him getting injured. Its gone too quiet on him so the writing is on the wall. As long as the money goes back in to the squad then its sound.

We've no evidence of anyone actually having put a bid in yet. Social media has gone into meltdown over a couple of column filler pieces

We all want him to stay as he loved and adored by many and is a joy to watch by all. but reality is the winner and the business strategy will kick in and force an outcome sooner rather than later. We cant allow him to walk for free and although it would be sad to see him go the process that got us here has to rigidly stay in place.

The 2 CBs McNally and Thomas with money has been mentioned this morning so lets see what the next few weeks bring.

He won't be fully fit yet, he's only just back on grass. Maybe he'll play a bit maybe not. I do think his injury has held up the potential move

Who have we had that far above the level in the last 25 years? I’d argue Vik and before him it was Keane.

If we want to get to the promised land then we have to stop Hamer type players leaving and pay what there worth as MR can't keep producing miracles .MR will get pissed off and decide its time for another challenge.

We are just back from Portugal on the first day, yesterday, two were signed there will be others bubbling away, three weeks to go yet until the big kick-off let’s all be patient ffs! Including the Hamer situation.
We have the Gyo. money to play with perhaps not all of it but a good chunk.
I’m okay with how it is going and reckon we will have a good squad to kick off with, forward wise it’s okay now and will be better.
I believe there will be quality loans too.
It’s a case of trusting the management they haven’t let us down yet.

How can you realistically expect us to match PL clubs' wages?

I think this week will see out where we stand with Gus, staying or going. I seem to be in the same camp as most on here, would love to see him stay, but if he doesn't sign a new contract then it would be in the best long term interest of CCFC to sell him and use some of the money to fund multiple players. As has been said several times, Vik and Gus were unknown quantities when we bought them and for a low amount compared to what selling them on can provide for us. I trust in Mark and his team to unearth some more low cost jewels to take us forward again. PUSB

There are clubs in the prem who can’t afford Premiership wages the bubble there is ready to burst. We have seen it with recently relegated clubs financially screwed.

I mean , when we talk about the brentford model .. isn't this exactly what they do .. the return on investment is monstrous .. 2.2 million To 32/35 million

That model relies on already having identified and in some cases bought a replacement, not sure we're like that.

We've replaced Gyokeres with Simms. Are you suggesting we wouldn't do the same for Hamer?

I'm not but we can't keep paying lower wages in the championship as the only way it will end up us relegation fight.

These types of players will deem what they’re worth being what other clubs will pay them. If there’s genuine demand for him from the PL, we have no chance of being able to match those types of wages.

Didn't we try and pay bigger wages under Coleman ? That didn't work out too well

When talking about the Brentford model bear in mind that they closed their academy while in the lower leagues as being not cost effective. I think they have reinstated it now they are re-established in the PL

And being a 'London' side helps. Wonder what their changing facilities are like?

Totally agree, let’s not forget, it won’t be the club not trying and Gus himself will not be holding the club to ransom but his agent will be on overtime and pushing like mad for more money, whether this is with us or another club.

If you follow Fabrizio Romano on twitter he is across all the major transfers. If you look at the quality to the cost that they are paying in Europe it shows what an outlier the UK is as far as transfer and wage costs. Most fees are around the £20 million mark with addons for proven top league international players. The model in the UK is going to have to change, I love Vik and Gus but are they really worth the figures paid or being touted about, the prices are massive by comparison especially when you haven't played in the highest leagues. If Gus goes I believe Sheaf can step into that roll, he tends to do more of the dirty work with Gus free to express himself so if we signed a defensive midfielder I wouldn't be that worried as Sheaf has the range of passing. We will just need more contributions in the goal charts from our attacking midfielders. PUSB

If he’s as good as we all think he is why would he sign a contract extension here rather than going to a prem team on more money?

Depends of the type of money being offered, upto something like 10 mill, the club may just decide to take a throw of the dice on promotion this season. The money being talked about (15-20 mill), the club should cash in imo and reinvest it.

as most have said, if he signs excellent, if he doesnt, he clearly wants out and so we move on, as hard as it is to say.

if we can add 5/6 £3m players with the Gyok/Hamer money, we will be in a better place than we have been for a long time in terms of finances and squad depth, and i dont necessarily think we need to make all those signings in this window

The figures thrown about for transfer fees can be very misleading when a player exchange is included in the deal. For instance if McNally was offered as part of a deal, I would expect Burnley to value him at £4m+, which imo is ridiculous.
If Fulham just offered cash, then it would be interesting to see what replacements we have identified?
Having said all that...this noise around Gus could just be an overactive agent desperate to screw someone, so he can pay his tax bill in September.

I really like Sheaf but he's nowhere near the player Hamer is. Waiting for Sick Boy to appear now.
