True, but that sort of big signing

a willock, or an Ilias chair say, I would have liked Taylor who’s signed for Ipswich as a 2 million pound signing

thats probably to ambitious, but we’ve joined the journey Doug, if we sell Gus too we all be expecting investment

To be honest I’d kind of like the ballsy nature of replacing Gus with say a 10 million pound player rather than a few 2/3 million pound players

But no £10m player is going to accept 20k a week.

Which is why we need 3 or 4 players for that amount of money.

Very fair point,

when do we start trying to compete and offer average championship wages then?

or do we stick to our process

I think we’d be looking at a couple from abroad , seems to be more value in the foreign leagues

Got to remember the money can be spent over the next 2-3 summers and give us the best chance at going up in one of those seasons.

Who knows what will happen but the money we’ll have available, combined a low wage budget will place us in a unique position in this league.

If Hamer goes I’d want 3 £2-3m players at CM, ST, CB and then young/cheaper gambles/frees at RWB, RCB and LCB. Then decent loans in at AM ST and CM. Really build depth and quality through the squad.

Collins/Wilson
Sakamoto/RWB/Burroughs
RCB/Latibeaudiere
CB/Fadz
LCB
Dasilva/Bidwell
CM/CM/Howley
Sheaf/Kelly/Eccles
AM/O’Hare/Palmer/Allen
ST/ST/Simms/Godden/Tavares

Would probably take half a season to find our feet, but with the right signings I’d back us to be top ten by the end and really push on next season.

Didn't Robins say a while back that people need to be realistic with their wage demands if that was directed towards gus then he probably has a replacement lined up and will have known gus is unlikely to stay

We were in the bottom 4 last season as regards wage bill , I think this season we should be a lot higher and therefore more attractive to potential signings

If Hamer doesn't sign the deal we have to sell unfortunately, can't afford to let him leave on a free in 12 months.

Will be absolute gutting and with losing Hamer and Gyokeres i think it will be a bottom half finish and will take another 3 years before we can even think about another crack at the play offs/top 10.

The apparent word was that Hyam doubled his wages when he signed for Blackburn. I was v saddened when he left but after being their player of the season, frequently their captain and becoming a full international it’s hardly likely that his value has not increased.

I doubt v much that we could afford to (or would want to) pay him even if he were available to bring back here.

I disagree , Gus will be hard to replace obviously but we are signing exciting players . I don’t think Simms would’ve signed unless certain promises were made to him

If Hamer was to go the midfield looks OK without him. Not saying we wouldn’t need to replace him but it’s not like when Gyokeres left. As others have said we could spend that money over the next 2/3 summers improving the whole squad.

I suspect that Burnley rate Twine about £15m too.

This mentions Bobby Thomas (who tbh I’ve never really heard of) or McNally plus some cash.

Burnley working on a deal for Coventry's £15m midfielder Gustavo Hamer

TOM COLLOMOSSE: Burnley are working on a deal to sign Gustavo Hamer from Coventry with the midfielder valued at about £15million.

That would be a pretty ridiculous valuation on Twine considering he did absolutely nothing last season. Not really sure what this forum’s obsession is with him.

I personally think Hamer wants to move on like Gyökeres did, it’s just not being played out in the press

Would seem like it with how much his name has been banded around the last week. Will be his agent earning his pay-check.

Guessing we may potentially learn more when the team-sheets come out tomorrow at Forest Green.

He's already spoken openly. He says he likes being here, and he would like to play in the Premier League one day. He also said he wouldn't be able to turn down Feyenoord if they came knocking.

I remember that article and in my opinion it’s easy to say that you love being here etc. whilst the team is in the middle of a rich vein of form and heading into a play off campaign, but it’s completely different in the transfer window and the moment comes where Prem sides are interested and you have the chance to double your wage - I do wish he’d never done that interview as not only has it probably given us a bit of false hope it’s also left himself open to some stick if he does move on which he quite frankly doesn’t deserve

I do believe the club as it is being ran now will have moved heaven and earth to offer Gus the very best deal they feel comfortable offering, rest is upto him but I’ve personally resigned myself to the fact he is also off

Some crazy over-valuations being thrown around on Twitter as well. Seen someone say that if Gyokeres is worth £20m than Hamer is worth £30m

Think it would be very good business if we can get £15m for him, although I’d much rather he stayed.

He’s in no way shape or form worth more than Gyökeres and I can’t believe how many people think he is, then again they’re the same people who probably wanted him publicly flogged after he got sent off at Millwall and Brum away anyway

Twine didn't play a lot as he was injured early on in the season and kept breaking down with the same injury. He was starting to look a really good player by the end of the season. I think Kompany really rates him and the other players say he is the best technical player at the club so unless they think he really needs a loan I can't see him going anywhere. He is worth keeping at Burnley for the free kicks alone.

You can’t just shoe-horn a player into a squad because they happen to be very good at set pieces, hence why England never took Ward-Prowse to the World Cup - he’s never a premier league player

It has felt sadly inevitable that Hamer would move on this summer and if it is £15m, and we secure McNally as part of the deal then we can’t complain. Hamer deserves his shot at Premier League football and the club has benefited.

It’s a strange summer so far …. I’m pleased with the players we have signed but we are currently still weaker than last year. Much transfer work to do but I’ve no doubt we will exit Aug with a new look team with done new young players ready to become our next set of heroes.

If money was tight I can understand it, but we've got £20m coming in from Vik. Even if you can't agree a new contract, that buffer allows you to gamble on keeping him for another year and him walking away on a free if we don't go up.

Gus could get injured. and if he walks away for nothing, we'd be mad to not have e.g. 3 longer term contract players of decent quality in as the alternative. Short term - hero has gone (and will anyway in 12 months. Long term - 3 decent players in guaranteed for 2-3 years (leaving MR able to plan better)

Im staggered at the number of fans on here and Twitter that argue we should keep Hamer for next season to see if we get promoted and then let him leave on a free. Are they totally mad ???

This season Leicester and Leeds will be very short odds for the first 2 places. Our playing budget will still be probably around half way maybe a bit below that. Therefore in all probability we will not get promoted this season. It might happen, but it is far more likely not to happen.

We have to use the Vik and Hamer money to strengthen across the board, own more young talent rather than simply borrow other people’s, and start to become a true top end championship team.

This lets gamble on Hamer nonsense just ignores the business reality of football.

I think the transfer window is going a long way from plan. The cancellation of the match in Portugal for lack of players tells us all we need to know.

I wouldn't mind seeing 3 or 4 come in with the Hamer money, obviously McNally as part of the deal then
Willock Qpr 3m. Cannon Everton 4m, with the change to be spent on a Rwb and Lcb, without touching the Vik money

I’m not sure that is a reasonable interpretation of that. By the end of today we may have our 5th signing through the door with 6 weeks still to go in the window. How many did you expect at this stage ?
