Or he stays and plays and keeps his options open:

1) Scenario promotion: he can demand £40k per week from us and a fat signing fee and be a PL player.

2) Scenario no-promotion: he can leave on a free, get £40k (or whatever), and a big signing fee and be a top flight player somewhere.

Much as I hate to say, accepting £25k or whatever and be potentially tied to a second tier club might not be so attractive.

(And I know injury risk, a good agent sorts insurance for that)

Gyokeres showed you can get the move you want anyway.

(As an aside, it wasn't that long ago he loved the club and wanted to stay for one £18k / £20k / £22k pw, so if personal reasons to move stopping him loving us, he won't be signing the £40kpw contract with anybody in England)

Hamer is without doubt one of the top midfielders in the Championship and was instrumental last season 8n getting Cov into the play offs. Some of his performances were immense and he completely bossed the midfield on many occasions. However the question remains what is his current sales value to the club? None of us know and the only people that do are the owners of the asset. Robins will undoubtedly have all scenarios covered off . We just have to trust in Robins & the team as all the historical evidence suggests that they will get it right whatever the outcome

I perhaps naively assumed he was always going to sign an extension to be honest. Then even more naively assumed that if he didn't want to, he would say so in good time and we'd move on.

Makes Gyokeres way of leaving look pretty classy tbh... although tbf we could have a bunch of Hamer enthusiasts with Walter Mitty tendencies decide to comment on this board over the past few weeks.

Most of the time. Eventually they get one right. However the article is nonsense as usual. A club insider (probably Saddlebrains) has told them £12m would be accepted for Gus.

Doesn’t mean he’s gonna sign of course. I’d take £12m as much as it would hurt.

Anyone who has watched us the last nine months and thinks Hamer is worth as little as £5m is nuts or on the windup frankly. He’s literally the difference between us winning and losing games. What would you pay for say 10 or even 20 points a season? Cos that’s what he’s worth to us.

That’s a proper conspiracy theory. But can’t deny i was thinking the same. Also never heard Robin’s after mach interview be so positive after a defeat. Maybe offer’s some weight to the theory?

Get the impression he’ll either go for free next summer or something will happen to make him stay and there’s not much anyone at the club can do about it.

He should sign an extension with a gentlemen’s agreement that we’ll let him go if we don’t get promoted. He’s the heartbeat of the team.

That would assume his problem is ambition and not wanting to move country.

For someone with a year left on their contract, £12m, if true, I’d bank it and sell him.

I get how important to the team he is and he was outstanding today. I’d rather him sign a new deal and stay obviously , give him what he wants as far as I’m concerned, but you can’t turn that kind of money down and let him walk away on a free in a years time.

Have to agree you could see the team looked a bit lost without him but could fund a couple more great CM's and re-invent.

I'd be trying to get another CM in now who plays in a similar way if possible. The drop off from Hamer is huge. Even if he doesn't go I think we need someone as back up to him and who can have a year to adapt to the league before they are a regular starter next season
