It’s a nonsense decision not to sell. It’s gambling on promotion or no Hamer or money to replace him next season

He looked pretty similar when I saw him play for MK Dons (box to box player, takes set pieces, scores goals), but even if not we need to replace Hamer we would need someone impactful like Twine.

Yea just think it kills play offs for the coming season, even if we invest it well think it will take a year or two for the new team and players to grow and develop into a team which can challenge the play offs.

Much like how the 22/23 team was built over three seasons.

We have to build a team that can challenge for the top 2 rather than the lottery of the playoffs. A fee for Hamer would enable us to work more towards that.

And how many of them do it successfully, I would suggest only the teams who are are paying the big money can make that work.

If we could go out and afford to buy the second best midfielder in the championship after Hamer that would be great but i don't think we are in the market for those players.

We won't be buying the finished article, we will be looking at buying young players 21-23 who have talent but lack experience and who can develop into potentially the next Hamer or Gyokeres over the next two or three years and can be sold for a profit.

Dunno. First 11 or bench he'll still earn double I expect. So we'll find out what's important to him.

Yea potentially, just think it would mean a season of transition right now.

Well yes, but that's highly unlikely to be this season is the point. That rebuild would take a while.

It kind of depends how much bidding clubs are offering though. If it was for arguments sake £3m we might be better off keeping him for the season and risking him walking away on a free in 12 months time. £10m+ though, then yes we would be stupid not to cash in if he won't sign a new contract.

Our best chance of top 2 is with Hamer in the team.

We're nowhere near top 2 with Hamer in the team

That makes no sense. You're saying we're nearer top 2 without him in the team? The idea we can use the money and are guaranteed to emerge stronger I just don't buy. The money would get a straight replacement likely nowhere near his level and a couple of £1-£2 million players that could well flop for all we know.

If he wants to go not much we can do really, but it would be a colossal blow.

Feel like he’s going to Leicester. He’d be the perfect Maddison replacement for them in this league and they’d easily pay him north of £30k pw

Yup. I don't see why it would take 1 to 2 seasons. Depends on the player. Some fit straight in seamlessly.

If the club’s success is so reliant on an individual player, there’s something wrong somewhere. I’d love him to stay but there’s no reason why he can’t be replaced with a decent fee received and further strengthening the squad as a whole.

He’s a known quantity though, who likes it here, gets on with the squad and knows how Robins wants him to play. All stuff that might not be true at least at first even in the unlikely event that we found someone of the same skill level.

Like I say it wouldn’t be the end of the world, but equally I can see the sense in a gamble on keeping such an influential player for a season and rolling the dice on £180m.

I just don’t understand this ‘Just sell him and move on‘ attitude. Have people been going to the games?! This is Gustavo Hamer. He is not someone we can just ‘replace’. He is the heartbeat of the team both technically and socially. The first player I can remember for years that fans of OTHER teams are gushing over. When the key part of the season hit, it was him, not Vik that put his head above the parapet and got us to the b of the Premier League.

Even today (albeit a preseason friendly) you could see how everyone on the team raised their game the moment he was on. You can’t replace that overnight.
If he goes it would seriously wound the team on the Eve of the season.

I hope to goodness he stays.

Don't think it's about money with Gus, missing his kids and wants to go back to Holland to be closer.

Trouble is, no team in Holland will pay the asking price.

Tbf Van Ewijk is much higher calibre than Hamer was when he first arrived. We're able to attract a better standard of player now so I'd think we could replace him with someone pretty decent. That said all our potential targets will be fucking off elsewhere the longer this drags which is why its frustrating it's not sorted yet.

I hope he stays but he must sign a new contract if he is to stay .. we can't risk losing millions on a chance of promotion , we are 9th favourites for promotion

Make us 20th fave for promotion… could not care what the stats predict. We just need to carry on our journey, and preferably with Gus

To replace him we need the funds. Letting him leave for free won't allow that

Losing hamer would be a real blow. His quality was there to see soon as he came on today. Sounds like he has a decision to make and it's as simple as that

By all accounts It's not about money though.
If it was it could be sorted.

It appears to be about his family, so it's not an easy issue to sort out overnight.

Yes, I absolutely agree that if he wants to go back for his family, we can’t stop him. And he has given this club so much in three years he will go with our blessing. But it would be a terrible blow for Robins and the club. And I don’t buy the ‘We’ll get a suitable replacement’ because I think even MR would concede that is ridiculously hard. Even a player of his technical ability might not have the same gel in the group. Even the new players must have already seen the massive impact he has and be feeding off that.

Think I’ve just always thought ‘he’s staying’ and suddenly I fear he won’t.
