I genuinely thought he was premier league bound after his first 6 months. He looked our only goal threat for a while and single handedly won us points. Not sure what’s happened to him but the fatigue argument went out the window when he played poorly after being rested and after a long break.

Hopefully it means we keep him another season and he starts next season like he did this one.

Completely agreed, hopefully he doesn’t turn out to be a 6 month wonder!

Forms just dropped off a cliff but to be fair to him it must have been a rough introduction to English football. I feel for the foreign lads we signed during the pandemic. It can be hard to adjust at the best of times but not being able to properly socialise and make bonds in a new country must suck, no family about to support you. Coupled with the weird season with condensed fixture list and no fans to buzz off it must be hard for them.

He won't have experienced the intensity of this type of football ever before .
Never fully judge an overseas player until they've had at least a year to adapt.
I think both Spurs and Chelseas give young foreign players 18 months to settle. It is a big move for them

I think he's just fucked, and playing behind the most ineffective strike force in the country for much of the season probably hasn't helped, with no one making runs for him to pass to, not to mention the lack of crowds and atmosphere which hardly helps motivation.

I'm sure he also fancied a big move in January which didnt happen, and all of a sudden his chin has hit the floor. And let's be honest, the pitch at Birmingham didnt help his game.

We either need to cash in on him at the end of the season, or put an arm round him and get him mentally ready for a return to the ricoh!

Hamer was new to the league and largely unknown to opposition at the start of the season but opponents study players, look for weaknesses ,mark tighter it is as much down to Hamer to up his game a notch or two, that will see if he is as good as we think.I certainly don’t go with him being burnt out or needing a rest unless he is playing with an injury. The whole team has lost form the last month or so including him it happens, as I said it is up to him to step up and show us he isn’t a six month wonder I think he will.

As for cashing in on him, who too, with what has happened with football financies there are going to be a lot of provern players looking for clubs and no transfer fees we will do well to get our money back.

Did we over hype Hamer in the first half of the season or is he just off form/ fatigued?

Both!

He looked great, but there was no doubt he was overhyped by some. There was talk of him going for £15m and I was laughed at for saying £5m max.

He's been off the boil for a couple of months now. Whether that's fatigue or him reverting to his norm after a good run of form remains to be seen.

I'd go with a combination of him being noticed by other teams and therefore given less room to play and either being knackered or carrying a minor knock. At the best of times players comment about the pace and number of games in English football, he's also had to deal with a condensed season.

Hopefully a proper pre-season schedule and a normal fixture schedule next season will help.

Been disappointed with Hamer last month or so, as said above most likely fatigue, but lets be honest, the whole team havent performed overly well the last month or so.

i keep changing my mind between he is underperforming or he is simply now playing at the same level as most others, when before he was stand out.

He's still our top goal scorer i believe which isnt bad for a CDM

Hopefully we rest him again for Bournemouth and chuck him back in against Rotherham in a game he can more easily make an impact.

Same with O'Hare, i think its also a confidence thing and having strikers who arent scoring goals is no good for either of them, but hopefully thats now sorted Godden and Walker are back

The change of team shape has no doubt caused issues as well, if his only options for the forward pass are O’Hare and the striker then it’s not ideal. That said, I did feel that he was trying to force it a bit too much in more recent appearances. Think some time on the sidelines will do him the world of good.

It's a bit of everything probably, he was overhyped but I also believe that he's out of form currently, i.e. he wasn't playing above himself in the early days. I also think the constant churn of who he's playing alongside doesn't help as Kelly, James, Sheaf all play slightly differently.

He's a really good player but still young , his form ( Or involvement in games ) seemed to have dipped more since James arrived. Maybe feeling a bit over shadowed by older more experienced player taking more of a lead.

He's clearly got the quality in there. Feels like something isn't quite mentally at the moment which could be any number of things. But I hope if we can stay in championship he will be with us, add some more quality around him especially going forwards and he will come back into form. He clearly has ideas which the likes of Shipley, max, Allen cannot read so makes him look worse and no doubt get frustrated. But I do think he has enough quality to bounce back

Both.

He did some very good things and scored some important goals but also tried to force way too much, Hollywood passes when there was something easy on or charging into a challenge and leaving himself out of position. He also gave the ball away in dangerous areas a lot in the same way Sheaf was crucified for.

He also wasn't on form for 6 months. The season didn't start until September, he was mainly good from September to November, dropped off a bit in December and has been poor since.

As others have said though this is a massive adjustment and he's close t playing as many games in the last 8 months as he had the previous two years in a less intense division.

Give him a full pre-season and with crowds at the Ricoh and I think we'll see his quality.

He's good enough, but just out of form. That may be partially down to fatigue, but not fatigue alone. Don't think we overhyped him. Part of it was us focusing solely on him because everyone else was crap at the time!
I've got faith that he'll come good again. Like someone else commented here, the Rangers link probably didn't help initially. Over three months later I'd like to think that's not much of an issue unless bids came in which were knocked back, and he's unhappy about. Think that's unlikely as it would have come out by now.
I remember Chippo having his head turned by Newcastle 20 years ago. His form plummeted soon after. Think Hamer's got a bit more mentally about him.

I did hear that there is a domestic issue in his personal life which may be a factor in his loss of form.
If that is the case I hope very much that there is a happy outcome for him.

Looking at his social media he's got a young kid who would have been about six months old when he signed here. Can't be easy to move to another country with a baby during lockdown. Not like his Mrs can be taken out by the other wives and girlfriends to make her feel at home.
