Midfield scoring hasn't actually been so bad recently, we've had Allen, Hamer, Palmer all chip in. Get Sheaf going too and, at present, it'd function goals wise as it should.

The way we set up?

We’ve never been free scoring under Robins. We set up to be tight at the back and win by the odd goal.

Fairly sure the attack has out performed the defence in the last two seasons.

In my opinion our midfield needs seriously looking at in the summer how it’s set-up and individually, one at a time they are all okay collectively I question it.

I currently think it's relatively strong when all fit. Sheaf and Hamer behind O'Hare and A.N.Other with Allen, Palmer and Eccles to step in isn't bad.

Depends on if they'll all be here next year of course but as it is I think we need to sort out some permanent CB's, a RWB or two, a GK and a ST first.

I think people are over reacting when they say we dont get enough goals from Midfield because looking at other Championship teams they dont rely on goals from midfield

The numbers aren't anywhere near high enough for a team that plays with one striker. By default, your midfield players should be scoring more goals as they (in theory) support the lone striker.

There are too many players in our team which are absolutely no goal threat and it shows on the pitch all the time. We're practically in the relegation zone for goals scored across the league as well.

doubt it - couldn’t see for example getting into Norwich or Burnley’s team - interesting what fee we get for him - certainly won’t be £15m

We do seem to be on a bit of a tightrope, knife edge with the likes of Hamer and Gyok only having a year left at the end of the season.

Getting them to sign new deal is going to be a really hard sell to players who will likely want to progress higher up the leagues. I'm not sure how fanciful it is but could we offer new deals on better wages but weighted with a load of get out clauses for the player? Set buy out clauses or conditions that we would sell if a sensible offer comes in that sort of stuff to reassure them they can get out if the club doesn't match their ambitions.

I'm basically resigned to loosing possibly all 3 in the summer but would love the team to stick together and possibly make a real push for promotion next season

Do you think we will get £15 million for him and £10 million for Dabo?

Do you think Kenny Jackett would have us higher up the table?

We can do the spreadsheet tango as much as you like. I've got plenty of stupid takes as ammunition against me but you've got more than anyone.

After yesterday, our midfield is the fourth highest scoring midfield in the division: Championship - Goal 22/23

If we keep this up, it'll be the highest placing for our midfield in the Robins era (we were joint fifth in the Championship two years ago, and joint fifth in the L1 title-winning season)

That's actually very surprising, but great to see.

Especially as our 3 attacking midfielders have, between them, missed a huge chunk of minutes.

To be fair to London, hamer is 100% better than Sara and Liam gibbs at Norwich , and he'd probably get in at Burnley too ahead of gudmonson

There's certainly been a massive increase in goals from the midfield, which has helped us hugely. At the time of this original post we were severely lacking in that area.

Hamer and Allen have hit good numbers this season now, and whilst Eccles and Sheaf are a bit tame in front of goal, even the latter has notched a couple recently.

I know the idea doesn't want to be entertained, but a lot of people said we wouldn't cope without O'Hare. His absence may have made us change how we play, but I feel like it has caused others to flourish at the same time. In general we are becoming much more ruthless in front of goal now.

Hamer is the 3rd highest scoring central midfielder in the league, and the highest scoring defensive midfielder In the league .. depends where you class him as playing

Question is what the side looks like without Hamer and Vik.

Theres a good chance at least one or both will get into championship team of season.

Those 7 points we lost early doors , which were caused by keeper errors .. would put us in that argument certainly

But and it's a big but , you are where you deserve to be at this stage

As good a chance as anyone if we get in the play offs. Big opportunity as I think the relegated prem teams will be better next season.

That’s what I’m saying. Take the distractions out with key injuries and the early mess and we would be there easily. When you sustain for 30 games that’s not form that’s class. I think we fail to recognise what a force we are when we’re not being knocked off course.

Its actually crazy that our style of play suits playing away from home. We are simply a brilliant side in transition.

Gonna be a horrible watch vs Birmingham and Reading when they sit back.

Weirdly I think a potential Luton then Boro is better than the other way around. Especially as us and Boro will just have played.

Just thinking of the championshio play offs a few years was a frightening standard...the standard of players in these teams.

Villa/Derby/West Brom and Leeds

Grealish/Abraham/Mount/Timori...etc

Crazy looking those teams line ups.

Before thread posted (28 games) - 11 goals from midfield (0.39 goals per game/35% of our total goals)

Since thread posted (24 games) - 6 goals from midfield (0.28 goals per game/28% of our total goals)

Yes but those players have improved massively in the intervening period. They were promising at that stage but now top players of course.

Answer my question please.

You'll have to factor in when we have/haven't played with two strikers as well. The problem is you're so quick to want to get in an argument with someone/prove someone wrong, that you don't think things through.

Oh sorry - yeah, I'm not able to work that out unless someone's able to pull up a cached version of the Transfermarkt stats.

But aside from our ranking across the division, it seems to me that our goalscoring rates from midfield have been pretty consistent throughout the season.

We played a system with one striker and had O'Hare/Palmer/Allen playing as attacking midfielders for a long time.

The fact we are now playing with two strikers and we are scoring more goals from a deeper midfield is very encouraging.

Oh I agree. I was just pointing out that at no point this season have we been "severely lacking" in goals from midfield, nor has there been a "massive increase" since January or at any stage this year - it's something we've been doing at a very competitive rate all season.

It definitely felt like to me we were a bit short in goals from midfield previously, but the more I look at this the more I think it comes down to our system at certain times, and the number 10s probably not contributing enough.

It's less of an issue if you play with two strikers and they are scoring, and Godden playing frustrates some people perhaps, but he's scored 7. That's not too bad if you've got Vik on 20, Hamer and Allen on 7 as well.

When you have only one striker and a number 10 that can't score, there's a lot of pressure. We're much more ruthless now.
