Gillingham Match Thread - The Ricoh Return (1 Viewer)

With the madness of the ticketing situation almost at an end, may as well start this one early, as like me, I'm guessing everyone is buzzing with anticipation.

The Gills fans I've spoken to reckon they will line up something like this:

Bywater

Fish - Egan - Hause - Martin

McGlashan - Morris - Hessenthaler - Dack

Kedwell - McDonald

Subs: G.Morris, Davies, McKain, Pritchard, Dickenson, Norris, German

That is former City loanee Stephen Bywater in goal, who has been known for the odd howler since leaving us.

Joe Martin at left back is a tidy little player, who has good delivery from set pieces (Son of former West Ham player Alvin Martin).

Wingers McGlashan and Dack offer pace and a goal threat.

Big Danny Kedwell up front is a beast of a man, but I'm sure Reda will have him in his back pocket.

And of course there is Cody McDonald, who has been banging them in for fun.

Peter Taylor usually sets them up in a 4-4-2 and likes his sides to play decent football for the most, however they're not afraid of the hitting diagonals to Kedwell with Cody feeding off the knock downs.

I'd expect City to start with:

Allsop

Clarke - Hines - Webster - Johnson - Haynes

O'Brien - Fleck - Swanson

McQuoid - Tudgay

Subs: Burge, Willis, Pugh, Thomas, Coulibaly, Miller, Nouble

Obviously hoping for a City win, but in these type of games literally anything could happen (Cue a drab 0-0)

Think we will lose 1-2. It's in my sky blue dna to be unconfident ahead of any big match.

Crowd - average Shitfields Attendance last season x 11, or roughly 26,000.

3-1 win for me. Think we'll take time to get into the game (more so than usual given the occasion), but once we get into it, we'll outplay Gillingham.

McDonald to put Gillingham 1-0 up, then the comeback will begin! McQuoid will get 2, and Johnson the other. Heard it here first ;)

I don't want to sound a doom merchant but big crowds at Highfield Road and The Ricoh don't normally see us deliver, plus Cody McDonald will come back and score I just know it.....

....but then this is the start of a new era isn't it, this is the new chapter, the new beginning... Come on you Sky Blues...get them at it SP for a full 90!!!!

I think you are right Hobo...it is the start of a new era.

There is no reason why the class of 2014/15 can't go on to be the folklore of the future.

I had Carr, Hunt, Glazier, Blockley, Martin and co'. Why should today's player be any different?

New era, New future, New heroes for our Young Sky Blues supporters.

How dare you talk about the actual game itself as opposed to the mad rush for tickets!!

Heart says 2-1, head says 1-2. Think the first goal is crucial here as the last thing we need is a large angry crowd on the back of young players.

1st time I have felt excited about a footy match - Not getting any work done so I'm leaving in a bit get back to gods county so I can listen to the build up.

Fear that we will freeze to be honest- Must be on the players mind otherwise why would SP say it's not?

1-2 Macdonald scoring both their's
crowd - 23000 just can't get my head around the ticket problems everyone has had.

A very winnable game and a good opportunity to get over the whole 'we never win in front of big crowds' thing. I'll go with 2-0 to us.

Don't forget very few of out players have played at the Ricoh, hopefully they won't freeze and we get the return home we all deserve.

3-0

Seeing as Swanson and Miller are out I wonder how we will line-up tonight. I'd like to see

Allsop
Willis - Clarke - Johnson
Phillips ------------------------- Haynes
Fleck - O'Brien - Hines
Tudgay - McQuoid

Clubs play in front of 25000 + gates up and down the country every week, without all this fuss !!;)
If everyone moves there asses as soon as and the club office keeps plugging away it will all turn out ok in the stands. Turning to the pitch, hard to predict but I'd take our first ever result at the Ricoh with another 5000 inside the ground this time.

It's listed on SS2.

Football on a Friday is a new one, I think this is the last day of the week I've yet to attend a game on.

I remember going to City's first ever Sunday game ('71 '72??) against Derby. 0-0 I think. T
here were a lot of "Churchy" people outside with banners saying we would all go to Hell or Leicester or someplace for going to a game on a Sunday.

Can't believe that with the clamour for home tickets there is a cash turnstile on the South Stand! Obviously in the Gillingham section!

Cody Mc to score first and Gills to win 1-0 is 60/1 on Skybet. I'm hoping for a Cov win and certainly a good performance from the lads but with a certain amount of anxiety of "First Day Nerves", I'm planning on a 50p stake on that bet which would at least sweeten a defeat :(
