I mean I haven't even read it yet, for all I know the methodology is way out. But what, actually, is so horrifying about people researching such things?

A great reason to bring BLM back to the fore. After all , it seems to have lost its way, certainly on here, in the last few days.

Without sounding racist, have they researched into if there's any factual basis?

Obviously not saying black players aren't intelligent but I would say the most powerful, explosive players I can think of are black in terms of physique and strength. Look at the fella at wolves who says he has never done weights. Yet if you look at players like Trent Alexander Arnold he's hardly built like a wrestler but is a very intelligent player.

The other thing is black goalkeepers, there are more in the last 5 or so years though.

don’t know why the idea of research unnerves people.

It's interesting if anything.

It does also depend who does it.

It is interesting, it might turn out to be badly flawed, however it’s an attempt to do something outside of just rowing and accusing people, so to casually dismiss & mock is weird.

I've said nothing but that it's interesting, either.

Why wouldn't it be?

Have to agree, pushing equality and everybody being the same but then sticking a label on everything doesn't work.

Yes- and I would imagine there is also an element of subjectivity to any analysis of the words people use. However after days of talk about the political motivations around organisations & talk about marxism & things like that, diverting away from the actual problem, its good to see an attempt to get some facts. Nobody (I think) is in any doubt that there is a problem, here's an attempt to get some reality & move away from labels, politics & name calling, and yet immediately it gets rejected. The study might be good, might be bad, but just dismissing it casually is stupid.

Would be interested to read more. To be honest I'm not sure why they're saying describing players as having pace and power is a negative thing.

And as always is factually incorrect and going off about something it clearly doesn’t understand. Good old common sense.

“The organisation” like there’s one BLM office somewhere in soho arranging everything. I get why he thinks that, it’s being pushed hard by certain types online, but it’s not true. The vast majority of people using the name and claiming to be official are literal nobodies and are not the sum of the movement.

The willful refusal to accept this obvious fact by people who get it in every other context is worrying.

You can support BLM without wanting to abolish the police.

You can support animal rights without throwing blood on people wearing fur.

You can support reduced immigration without wanting to shoot people in dinghies.

You can support CCFC without posting racist bollocks on Instagram.

This is not hard stuff people.

Racism is hardly an issue that has suddenly appeared out of nowhere. There must be hundreds, if not thousands, of anti-racism organisations. Nothing stopping anyone complaining about BLM getting on board with one of the many alternatives or even starting their own organisation. Not sure how just saying not to support BLM is going to help things.

meanwhile stuff like this still happens but lets bury our heads in the sand and pretend BLM are the problem and if they go away everything will be OK

Black father and son tackled by police and threatened with Tasers during charity bike ride

Met officers suspended for ‘taking selfies’ with bodies of stabbed sisters | News | The Times

of course the usual suspects will say how do you know it's racially motivated, I don't for sure. But I'd say it's a fair bet, especially in the case of the first story.

You can imagine what would have happened in the states. Totally inappropriate to force someone off their bike and it’s absolutely an assault in my eyes. And why no apology and support to help the lad.

I was stopped about his age coming back Late at night from my friends house and it scared me. The copper thought I was jay walking. I was 12 or so.

It’s the lack of compassion or apology that would really piss me off.

There is a problem, of course there is. There isn't that much of a discussion about it though.

Which is why politics should have been kept out of it.

Im starting to think it would be better just to force groups of people from different races and backgrounds to go to the pub for a pint and an open chat which would be a massive eye opener for "normal" people, regardless of race. (ie people who can have a discussion without wanting to make everything about politics.)

If there was a stabbing just up the road and they fit the description, I can't see the issue with stopping them in the right way. If a plain clothes officer has jumped out of a bush without stating who they are then what do they expect? I have seen somebody in plain clothes jump out and get flattened because they didn't make it clear who they were.

The issue seems to be that the plain clothes copper didn't make it clear who he was, the lad thought he was being mugged and tried to get away, the dad was rightly angry and protective.

Think the plain clothed officer needs a talking to.

I think this is quite underrated as a way of getting rid of misconceptions about others. The problem with the politics stuff is it affects so many aspects of society in one form or another and invariably people have strong opinions about it. It's been said before but I reckon if you got most people from here into the pub or out to a City game they'd probably get on.

The likes of Coventrian are pretty few and far between I'd like to think. It's fine for people to have strongly opposing opinions but many, me included, find it hard to express things diplomatically in these cases. If we can do that over a beer, we might become less polarised or at least not just assume that the other guy's a twat.

Actually, as we all post on message boards, it's likely to be a passive-agressive stare and tut.

They were good times- some serious hangovers though..

You could be rowing all day on Friday, then laughing & drinking with the very same people 24 hours later.
