Certainly do. I respect what you say completely. Its not you that I have issues with because we are singing from the same hymn sheet though not necessarily at the same speed and so it doesn't always sound great, so to speak.

Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly. You’ll like it, it about suppressed black women. Suppressed twice, once for being black and then again for being women. Non fiction also. Or you could just watch the film.

Or maybe The Best of Enemies: Race and Redemption in the New South by Osha Gray Davidson. Again, you could just watch the film.

Seen hidden figures. Absolutely brilliant , one of the best films I've ever seen .
Bettered though by green book, about a black touring pianist who hooks up with an Italian American doorman who becomes his driver. They tour together and face racism , as you'd expect. True story , like hidden figures. I think it's still on Amazon prime.id never heard of it but it really leaves you feeling the situation as it was , and probably still is in some places.

Why carrying on with the sarcasm? No need for it.

Good call. Still haven’t seen the film, didn’t realise that it was based on a book.

Green Book ? Its named after a green book they got that mapped their route..and motels to stay in . Its a wonderful film because of the way the relationship between the two men develops . They are very different but they face the problems together and grow close. They stayed friends in real life after the tour and died within months of each other in about 2013. it's about 2 hours 15 long. Slow burn.

You should watch The Best of Enemies. Very similar vein and again based on a true story. It’s stars Taraji Penda Henson from hidden figures and Sam Rockwell as the other lead. Really good film.
I think it’s still available on Sky at the moment.

I'll look that up. I like those kind of films. I don't know why but I think it's circumstance and the strength of characters to get through against the odds. They also show you how the worst of situations can bring out the best in people. The fact they're based on true stories makes it even better.

End of term in sight and a better timetable offered for next year, possible a chance for some after school football too. Will only be too happy to see the back of this year.

Don't burn yourself out though. That's the key. I've worked with some hugely dedicated teachers over the years but within 10 years they've gone. You can keep saying I need to do this, I should just do a bit more on that and then you have no time left for yourself. You know what I mean .

My timetable has been pretty monstrous this year and it hit me a bit when the exams were called off and my classes couldn't sit them after the work they'd put in. My missus has had a similar issue this year so workload has had us both worn out.

But if it’s a ‘want to’ issue. What’s are the reasons for not wanting to? That’s what also needs to be explored and worked on.

Maybe it's just as simple as biology, women tend to be more caring and compassionate, which may lead to them pursuing careers in nursing, child care, teaching?

Loads of teacher marriages fail because of the sheer amount of work and pressure. At the end of the day you have to just say you've done what you can and put it to one side and relax a bit.
Its easy to not get home until gone six, then work for a couple of hours. Then you're knackered. Don't eat properly, don't exercise properly. If it's two of you it's easy to talk shop and not get away from it. . Then weekends are spent shopping, catching up with what you didn't do in the week. Then planning on Sunday. You've got my sympathy . Sometimes you have to let something go otherwise you start to think what am I doing this for ?

Our problem is that we're early career teachers so some things we need to plan from scratch. We had 10 classes each so if we cut off the marking at a certain point in the day, it wouldn't get done. Weekends have been pretty much as you describe, we're just hoping that at least when we don't need to plan as much we can mark at more reasonable times. The Covid stuff meant even stuff we'd made from previous years needed to be adapted for remote learning so just made it worse.

Getting hitched next year though so it's been nice for us to focus on something positive and not school related

Not really having that Nick. That’s part of the problem. I’m not Asian for example but I’ve been in fights in the past to protect Asian friends from verbal and physical attacks. I kicked the fuck out of someone being racist to my Chinese ex and I was personally offended and very much angry. And will continue to be.

It's called empathy.
Some people are scared of a society where ethnic minorities are treated equally.
Some of us are scared of a society where they aren't.

Over time you learn what to leave out. You're bombarded early on with you must do this, do that etc, but you learn how to cut the crap out and prioritise. You also get quicker at what you do and over time and planning gets a bit easier.

Yeah I can understand that. But this was brought up as a response to black people being lawyers. Which is what I was really referring to.
