I was on about all statues that these people apparently now want removed and the stuff that khan was on about. Put it to a public vote. I think the majority of people would stick 2 fingers up and say fuck off.

I suspect you’re right on a general point. Everyone will have statues they want to keep, their own line.

But only one has gone like this AFAIK, and it had a history and certain circumstances. Others have been removed by the democratically elected councils and people have the chance to vote them out. The protection of statues during protests is a standard move, one Boris Johnson has done himself.

I’m saying don’t take it to an extreme. Whats happened isn’t so bad or out of the normal.

Proportionately more Irish volunteered for the British army than from any other nation, 27% of them became NCOs, a higher percentage than the English. There was also lots of 'behind the scenes' co-operation. A divided country for sure at that time, trying to work out who was the bigger enemy & plenty of soldiers got abuse when getting back to Ireland. On the other side of that again, there are lots of WW1 & WW2 memorials in Ireland, there's one not more than 10 miles away from me right now, and thats in a 'neutral' country. Therefore stating that everyone in Ireland was a huge nazi sympathiser is just... well a slightly bizarre notion to say the least.

Again this has zero to do with the point does it? You have lambasted the UK and in particular supported removal of statues of people who have represented the UK and its shameful past. Yet in your adoptive country you show amazing double standards

On hearing the death of Hitler it was widely reported that the Taoiesach contacted the German affairs minister to express his condolances. He described during the war stories of concentration camps as anti nationalist propaganda.

He objected to the presence of US troops in Ulster and released weather reports to assist the Luftwaffe. The US State Department mocked its neutral status and scathingly accused him of "operating in favour of Axis powers"

While the whole of Europe opposed Nazi tyranny he encouraged it

I wonder if your children learn that in their zoom lessons from those teachers who work so hard and I wonder if statues of this deeply unpleasant man are being torn down

I think we both know the answer and I think only one of us cares

I am surprised no one has commented on the letter sent to Priti Patel accusing the previously racially abused Home Secretary of gaslighting regarding racism - it seems Ms Patel Is not infact black enough according to 30 labour MPs

The curious thing is it seems this communication was forwarded by the known anti Semite and racist Naz Shah

Sir keir it seems has adopted the Corbyn stance of no comment

What a marvellous opposition party labour are

There was an interesting opinion piece in the guardian about that, and in particular the different types and hierarchy of racism, experienced by different ethnic groups.

Personally, anyone who has found to have been racist should be sacked. Labour should have dealt with anti-semitism better. The tories should have dealt with Islamophobia better.

That letter wasnt a public communication, patel used it to further gaslight the situation.

Anyway, I'll leave you to it.

That’s a good read. Thing is with Priti is that she voted to bury the Windrush papers & brought in laws that would have stopped her family from coming here, so it’s understandable that emotions run high with her. Going around giving her racist abuse herself though is just bloody wrong and anyone doing that needs the chop.

After reading here I listened to some Candice Owen's and I was very impressed.

She is extremely intelligent and makes what I think are very important points.

I think the problem is that some people don't like that she is conservative and therefore all of a sudden her views on racism get quashed. It's nonsense really and further proves that people have different agendas rather than just working together to try and resolve this.

Great whatifery. It’s her words not mine. You should think about what she didn’t say rather than what she did say. BLM is about more than the murder of one black man, she chooses to concentrate on that one person because he has a somewhat colourful past and her attempts to make it about one person is an effort to undermine the far far bigger issues that the movement highlights.

You just don't like it because she mentions fatherless homes and crime rates.

The whole thing needs adult and open discussion. It doesn't happen for reasons we see in this thread right at the current second.

Using the #BLM hashtag does fuck all to fight racism really. There needs to be open and honest discussion about all aspects of ethnic minorities who are either being predejuce against or suffering. People are scared to speak up in case of getting called racist, and then when someone does who is black, she gets shot down by the left because she doesn't constantly play the victim card.

Shouting, screaming, kicking people off radio stations is not an argument.

Why do US police handle white mass shooters like they're helping an old lady across the road but kneel on a black man's neck until he's dead.

Why do they allow white anti lockdown protesters to walk in to fast food restaurants armed to the teeth but shoot an unarmed black man in the back?

You cite socioeconomic factors but they're not relevant as to why the police act with such brutality. Police simply shouldn't behave like that.
It's not only the black community that's affected but they are disproportionally affected.

Having said that, this isn't the States, and while it's great to show solidarity everyone here needs to take a deep breath and chill out a bit.

I would say the exact same thing I said to Tony.

The problem is that the left claims to be tolerant, but it is completely intolerant of any opinions that don't match with theirs.

Racism is an issue, so are social issues within the black community. People don't like her talking about it because it doesn't suit the narrative that they are 24/7 victims.

The first part of the thread is people being outraged (supposedly), now people are having a go at a black woman who wants to speak up and has an opinion.

I know who I would rather listen to.

But you're dragging issues into the argument that aren't relevant.
And as Tony pointed out Candice Owens argument is disengenious. But you'd rather listen to one black persons argument that fits your narrative but ignore all of black social commentators who argue the opposite?

This isn't just about George Floyd it's about years of systematic police brutality in the country that is supposed to be the leader of the free world which disproportionately affects one section of the community. You're just trying to distract.
People talk about George Floyd rap sheet, what about Derek Chauvins?
Stop trying to excuse the US police murdering people in cold blood.

Look at the article I linked earlier in this thread from the Washington post regarding police killings and police brutality. It's horrendous.

And you haven't answered my question about white mass murders and illegally armed militia?

I think a little self reflection is needed here. You are saying I'm ignoring one side of the argument when in actual fact I'm listening to both and think it is a much wider issue than some are making out.

The left, once again, just try and shut down any talk that doesn't match their narrative. Calling everyone racist one moment, then the next ignoring a black person's opinion. As I said, the hypocrisy is staggering.

I'm in total agreement about the white militia double standards thing by the way.

It's not a much wider issue. The police should not kill or assault people unless in very specific circumstances. They do so outside of those circumstances all the time without punishment.

You haven't answered my question regarding white mass murderers and illegally armed militia.
They took Dylan Roof to Burger King and allowed the militia to storm State buildings for fucks sake!
And why do you keep mentioning the left?
Don't the right want and end to police brutality and extra judicial racial killings?

WTliteralF?

Thanks for telling me why I don’t like someone who actually I know very little about and have no opinion about other than what she’s had to say on this one thing.

She’s trying to make BLM about one aspect of one person’s life during one specific time period of that person’s life. She’s doing exactly what she’s getting annoyed about in the first video Brighton SB posted regarding her comments about Hitler. She’s taking a narrative and weaponising it to attack someone to diminish a wider issue. She complained in that video that a selective part of a bigger picture was being presented as a narrative to attack Trump. Funnily enough exactly the same thing she’s doing with George Floyd and BLM.
The only thing you’re right about is that the hypocrisy is staggering.
